2010 FIFA World Cup: Spain

Spain is going to be one of the participants of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa. Spain has a rich football/soccer history with teams such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Club Athletico Bilbao, and Deportivo La Coru~na.

Spain has had previous experience as a host of the 1982 FIFA World Cup and participated in 12 finals. The only exception to the rule was the 1974 FIFA World Cup held in Germany [at that time West Germany].

Spain won 4th place at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and were victors in the 1964 and 2008 European Championships. They are a force to be reckoned as Armenia and Bosnia Herzegovina learned to their chagrin.

Spain is also the second highest scorer in the European Zone for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifications with 28 goals and 6 of them behind the English National Football/Soccer Team. They might have lost to the USA in the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup but they are in second place behind Brazil in the FIFA Coca Cola Ranking of May 2010.

Spain is in Group H with Honduras, Switzerland, and Chile. It would be hard to imagine what could transpire but Spain will defeat Switzerland in its debut game in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Honduras remains another game that may be difficult for Spain but Spain may defeat the Central American Country.

The Spanish National Football/Soccer Team has [at the present time] 10 wins with no draws, and no losses. They have 28 goals for, 5 goals against, and 13 yellow cards although Carlos Puyols has the most yellow cards accumulated.

David Villa, Iker Casillas, and Joan Capdevila are considered to be the most valued players with the most minutes played. David Villa has the most goals scored for the team with 28 with 555 minutes played. Iker Casillas and Joan Capdevila have the most minutes played with 810 in each one.

The only problem that would be facing Spain will be the condition of striker Fernando Torres. He was injured during a game with Liverpool that left him out for the rest of the English Premier League season. Regardless, he has rested and is planning to be present for the debut of Spain against Switzerland in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Cesc Fabregas is another injured player who is recovering from a broken leg that he suffered during the UEFA Champions League against FC Barcelona. Mr. Fabregas has stated that he will be ready for the first game between Spain and Switzerland.
