Martin Palermo Praises Maradona

Martin Palermo who is with Boca Juniors has praised Maradona after being informed about the possibility of being selected to play in the 2010 World Cup with the Argentine National Football/Soccer Team.

The declarations were made during an interview with the Argentine TV Station TN.

He states that it would be «an honor to play under Maradona» and further stated that it «would be the best thing to have happened in my life». Mr. Palermo went as far as to say that he is «waiting for the list» that shows his name in the selection.

Martin Palermo [who is 36 years old and with a desire to play in a World Cup] is also known by his nickname «El Loco» or «The Crazy One». He was swept aside in the 2002 World Cup by then coach Marcelo Bielsa and 2006 World Cup by Jose Pekerman.

While I respect and admire Martin Palermo for his desire to play for Argentina in the 2010 World Cup, Maradona as a coach or even a sports figure leaves much to be desired.

Maradona during his tenure as coach of the Argentine National Football/Soccer Team has managed to lower the prestige of the team by barely classifying to the 2010 World Cup.

When Argentina classified, Maradona lashed insults against his critics in a press conference which almost cost him to miss the 2010 World Cup. The presence of Maradona in football/soccer falls short of being a disgrace.

El Loco or Martin Palermo must be living up to his nickname if he loves torture. I can only imagine Lionel Messi going through what Maradona dishes out. Maybe El Loco could go as a spectator or a reporter but again no one is the same.
