Germany has been a frequent visitor to the FIFA World Cup and was once host of the 1974 FIFA World Cup when Germany was divided. It was West Germany that hosted the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

Germany is currently in 6th place with 1,107 points behind Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, and Italy in the FIFA Coca Cola Ranking. It is currently in Group D with Ghana, Australia, and Serbia.

While Germany has been considered one of the favourites in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the team has admitted that it is experiencing rough times with the other members of Group D. It also has not helped that one of their principal players Michael Ballack is injured.

Michael Ballack who plays for Chelsea was injured during its English FA Cup game against Portsmouth. The result was an injury to the medial collateral ligaments of his right ankle secondary to a strong and heavy challenge from the Portsmouth player Kevin Prince Boeteng.

The result is that Michael Ballack will be out of the game for eight weeks which includes the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It was something that was unexpected for the German National Football/Soccer Team.

The situation complicated itself when another player Torsten Frings announced that he will not play for Germany even if he is selected to replace Michael Ballack. The reason given by Mr. Frings was that he “never called”, “never trusted the national team coach”, and that he is “not available

Mr. Frings made the following decalaration even though Michael Ballack recommended him as a replacement. The top scorer for the team is Miroslav Klose with 26 goals within 492 minutes.

Miroslav Klose has played in 26 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and Finals on a consistent basis since 2002. He has 18 wins, 5 draws, 3 losses, 19 goals for, and 2 yellow cards to his record.

The German National Football/Soccer Team has had 8 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, 26 goals for, 5 goals against, 2 yellow cards, and one red card after a second yellow card. Jerome Boeteng was the recipient of the red card after a second yellow card after exhibiting un-professional conduct during a game.

Germany will be playing against Australia in its debut followed by Serbia. It will be interesting to see how the team will progress after these two games and their last game with fellow Group D member Ghana.

It is not going to be easy for Germany in the current FIFA World Cup.
