Christen Sawyer received the 2010 TMA for Female Vocalist Of The Year. She took time off of her busy schedule to talk about life after receiving this coveted award. Here is the result of our second interview with this rising star.

1. What were your initial feelings when you heard that you won Female Vocalist Of The Year for 2010?

I was thrilled! I’d already met a lot of the other musicians at the TMA’s and they were amazing, so I really felt honored to be there with them. Honestly I was a little nervous too… I can sing in front of crowds all day, but giving a thank you speech scares me to death!

2. What do you think were the reasons for being selected Female Vocalist Of The Year for 2010?

I think that the fans played a huge role in my receiving the award. I really believe that I have the greatest fans in the world, and a lot of them have been supporters since I was a fifteen-year-old posting karaoke videos on YouTube! (If you’re still around after that, you’re a trooper.) When I let everyone know about the nomination they were incredible about voting.

3. What will be your future plans after winning the award?

Next week will be the first time I meet with my VERY OWN full band. That’s what I am so ready to begin focusing on: live shows. It’s been great playing acoustic gigs around Texas but I can’t wait for everyone to see the real deal! I’ve also been focused whole heartedly on writing new material. I want to make the Academy of Texas Music feel like they made the right choice this year. 🙂

4. Do you have anyone to thank for after receiving the awards?

Yes! God, Mommy & Daddy (my two biggest fans), and everyone who has taken the time to listen to my music and shown their support. It means the world to me. Lucky & Jinelle for putting the whole show on, and all the volunteers I had the pleasure of meeting at the TMA’s–what great people! Last but definitely not least: Jeannie Bryant, who has been my voice coach since I was twelve… She has shaped me so much as a vocalist and she is always pushing me to do better. I know she is very proud of this award as well.
