England and Mexico faced each other in a test of strength before the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The game was played at Wembley before a crowd of more than 85,000 people who wanted to see their team perform before they go to South Africa.
While both teams have seasoned players with the possibility of winning the Cup, it appeared that England and Mexico were not up to the game in spite of the English victory.
England started the game with a timid and disorganized defense which left the spectators speechless and nodding as if to reinforce the lack of confidence. The lack of organization was evident in the first half even though Ledley King scored the first goal in 17 minutes followed by Peter Crouch in 35 minutes.
Mexico was a disciplined team which was not afraid to take risks but came short of being able to use England’s weakness to their advantage. The Mexican Team also known as El Tri scored the only goal of the game with Guillermo Franco scoring a direct hit to the goal post in 45 minutes.
The second half was a continuation of the first half with England agonizing in an attempt to play a game and Mexico fizzling out. The last goal was scored by Glen Johnson for the English at 47 minutes.
The game itself then slipped into an attempt to remedy the disorganization of England and Mexico attempting to regain lost ground. The whole game was like a slow motion train wreck with England winning merely a symbolic victory and Rio Ferdinand making gestures that nobody understood.
