2010 FIFA World Cup Personal Reflections

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is almost upon the world with different groups and different countries converging in South Africa. The media is in a frenzy with the first ever World Cup in the African Continent.

Group A is South Africa, Mexico, France, and Uruguay with the opening game between South Africa and Mexico. South Africa is predicted to win this opening game against a Mexico that is recuperating from its defeat to England and Holland.

France has been the team that did not deserve to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup taking into account the infamous handball of Thierry Henry. France will be scrutinized in the World Cup and will probably lose. The same can be applied to Uruguay. The end result will be South Africa and Mexico coming out on top in Group A.

Group B is Argentina, Nigeria, the Republic of Korea [also known as South Korea], and Greece. It is expected that Greece will not advance to the semi-finals or finals but again no team should be underestimated. Nigeria will present a challenge to Argentina and South Korea taking into account its expressive way of playing football/soccer.

The Republic of Korea finished one of its last friendly games against Belarus in which it was defeated. The defeat ended a four game winning streak which lead to the defeat of the Ivory Coast and Japan in the hands of South Korea. It is hoped that South Korea could win an impressive victory against Spain.

The biggest fear is Argentina since Messi is a very powerful player and Maradona is such an arrogant trainer. While the underwriter would love to support Argentina, the arrogance of Maradona is so big that there are people from Argentina who are supporting other teams except their own in the hope of a loss and removal of Maradona.

Nigeria and South Korea may emerge as the top front runners in Group B.

Group C is composed of England, the United States of America, Algeria, and Slovenia. Slovenia may not win while Algeria has expressed a fear of the English team. The US Soccer Team has won a recent friendly game against Turkey in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which was a needed confidence booster.

England is one of the favourites but it has been obtaining victories on the basis of a lacklustre and mediocre game. The last friendly between England and Japan resulted in an English Victory secondary to two own goals by Japan. England and the USA may emerge as the front runners in Group C.

Group D which is composed of Germany, Serbia, Australia, and Serbia has Serbia as a possible winner taking into account the various lesions in the German Team. Ghana is another powerhouse which means Ghana and Serbia will emerge on top.

Group E which is Cameroon, Netherlands, Denmark, and Japan will have the Netherlands and Cameroon as front runners.

Group F with Italy, Paraguay, Slovakia, and New Zealand will be dominated by Italy and Paraguay.

Group G is Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea [also known as North Korea]. The North Koreans hope to repeat their 1966 victory against Italy in the current World Cup. The opponents such as Brazil, Portugal, and the Ivory Coast are formidable.

The Ivory Coast has Drogba as one of the principal players and Sven Goran Eriksson as the coach. The team has been formidable in its discipline and tenacity in spite of losing to South Korea during a friendly game. Brazil and the Ivory Coast may come out on top.

Group H is Spain, Chile, Honduras, and Switzerland. Spain and Honduras are powerhouses that will come out on top with their powerful plays. While the predictions and what transpires may change, the important thing is that the world stops its disagreements for a World Cup.
