Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of participation in the 2010 FIFA World Cup secondary to damage of ligaments in the left knee. He was the Captain of the English National Football Team that is participating in the largest sporting event of 2010.
According to the medical team that examined him, Ferdinand will be out between four to six weeks.
He has been replaced by Steven Gerrard as Captain and Michael Dawson [who is the centre back for the Tottenham Hotspurs] as one of the players. It remains to be seen how this will play out.
