The opening ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup went underway in South Africa with people in Miami Florida watching at work, at restaurants, and different areas. There are even people who are watching the game progress in closets as well.

What is it about this World Cup that attracts attention? It is the first one to be held in Africa and in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup proves how far the Republic of South Africa has arrived since the dismantling of the hated apartheid system more than a decade ago.

The concert was great with Shakira, Juanes, Black Eye Peas, and Alicia Keyes interpreting their songs in the presence of millions of spectators. The beauty of the concert was to be able to see how people of different races, ethnic groups, and places of birth can come together an enjoy life and sports.

The opening ceremony was marked with people celebrating life and sports. The dancers and artists of South Africa sang their message of hope, and love that captivated the audience. It also inspired many people in Miami Florida to forget their differences and embrace one another without regard to external appearances.

The morning program of the US Latin Station Univision called “Despierta America” or Wake Up America threw a special party for fans of football/soccer including Mexico. The stars even made a bet in which they invented a game between Mexico and South Africa.

The Univision stars made a bet concerning South Africa and Mexico. The victory for Mexico means that the female artists were to be sent to the swimming pool with their clothes on.  It is something that I will never understand but it is the event and how people are enjoying life.

It can also be imagined what would happen in case of a victory for South Africa.
