did not want to mix politics with sports. The reason for this article is that I love sports and detest it when people mess with sports especially if it is one that I like.
While looking for another subject to deal with, I heard on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC program the news about Glenn Beck declaring that he »hates soccer, the World Cup, and does not understand baseball ‘. In addition, G. Gordon Liddy has the nerve to declare that «soccer was invented by South American Indians who kick skulls».
G. Gordon Liddy and others like him including Glenn Beck do not know that soccer may have started in England in the 8th century although there have been accounts of people in China, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome playing it many centuries before that.
Glenn Beck and his followers further declare that Americans «do not like soccer». What about those who play the game in school or at recreational areas? What about those who are playing their heart out for the United States of America in the World Cup?
What about the people who forget their differences in order to play soccer, participate in the World Cup, or assist in the World Cup? I remember seeing people in Miami Florida and other areas of the country going to bars, restaurants, and shopping malls and watch the 2010 World Cup.
Ohio (which is considered the base of the American Heartland called the Midwest) has a team called the Columbus Crew (which is of the MLS or Major League Soccer) as well as well as the Cleveland City Stars (which is of the USL or United Soccer League).
The Buckeye State was also the site of the CONCACAF Champions League game between Columbus Crew and Toluca around March of 2010 which resulted in a draw. The game was very popular with the people of Columbus, Ohio and was televised nationally.
Drew Carey is even a defender of soccer and is a big fan of the game. In the USA and the world, there is room for every sport including football/soccer. The fact that there is room for every taste in sports is what makes the world at least a better place to live.
