I Support Le Bron James

I sent an E Mail to WEWS Channel 5 in Cleveland, Ohio concerning Le Bron James. WEWS is an ABC affiliate in the area. I was unable to send it as a whole but here is the large version.

I am condemning the unfair treatment that LeBron James is receiving because he decided to move to Miami and sign with the Heat. It irritates me since both of us share the same birthplace and have lived in the Cleveland and Akron neighbourhood at different times.

Le Bron James loves Ohio and gave his formative years including the NBA to a city, county, and state that would eventually devour him. The people easily forget that he has helped the poor people in his area and is involved in the Boys and Girls Club of America.

The sight of the people of Cleveland, Ohio tearing posters of LeBron James and replicas of his Cleveland Cavalier jersey is pathetic and a disgrace. The letter from Dan Gilbert [who is the majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers] is one that is laced with hatred and fury against a person whose crime was to leave for Miami Florida.

The conference by Chris Grant was another example of adding salt to an open wound. The CBS Affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio has participated in the usual act of repudiation by spreading the word traitor across its website. What happened to the concept of being innocent until proven guilty?

I once had an image of the Cleveland and Akron area of Ohio from my early childhood to an early adolescence. It was an image of sports, Captain Penny, Mr. Jingaling, Academic Challenge, Devo, Euclid Beach Band, and Christmas.

The image or very few pieces of that image was forever destroyed after witnessing the hatred and act of repudiation by a people who are quick to criticize others without looking within themselves.

The people who were with me watching the decision of LeBron James on ESPN TV in Miami Florida recoiled in horror. Many people [myself included] compared it to the lynch mobs in Cuba during the Castro years as well as the Jim Crow era in early 20th Century USA.

The attitude of the people of Cleveland, Ohio or at least certain people reinforced my support for the decision of Le Bron James to sign with the Miami Heat. It is hoped that the Miami Heat could begin a new season and a new era with James, and Wade leading the way.

We must remember that the era of when an athlete stayed in one place is long gone. The USA is known as a country where people are born in one area, move to another area to study, then go on to work in another area, and finally retire. Whether people want to accept the reality is another thing. It is hoped that one day time will heal the wounds.
