Dayro Moreno of Once Caldas FC in Colombia could be the latest addition to Cruz Azul with the departure of central defender Edcarlos.
The news comes after Cruz Azul coach Enrique Meza called for reinforcements after Azul’s devastating loss to Toronto FC in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Cruz Azul has been monitoring the activities of Mr. Moreno in practice before making a final decision around the end of August 2010.
The venerable team from Mexico has been reviewing his achievements before making a decision.
Dayro Moreno was born in Chicoral, Tolima, Colombia on September 16, 1985. He started his football/soccer career at Once Caldas in 2003.
He has remained on the team with the exception of a few stints with Club Atletico Paranaense of Brazil and FC Steaua Bucuresti of Romania.
During his period with Once Caldas, Dayro Moreno was instrumental in helping the team defeat Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores of 2004.
His position as an attacking midfielder and second striker was known in Latin America. He has scored 76 goals within 195 appearances in his career.
The appearance of Mr. Moreno with the Colombian National Football/Soccer team earned him 17 goals in 31 appearances as well as five caps.
He was also instrumental in helping Colombia defeat Argentina 2-1 at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification CONMEBOL.
Meanwhile, Cruz Azul appears to be sorting out their problems with the goalie denying anything happened. Yosgart Gutierrez denies that his team’s loss in Canada was his fault.
Cruz Azul continues to prepare itself for its game against Jaguares and it is hoped that they have learned a lesson in Canada.
