Bill Clinton is one of the latest who has been throwing his support behind the candidacy of the USA for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
While he is the Honorary Director of the US 2022 World Cup Candidacy since May 2010, he has been to South Africa and has been promoting the US as a viable host.
He made a written declaration which states the following: «I support the candidacy of the United States of America to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup because I have been a direct witness to the bonds that unify people of different races, cultures, ages, and ideologies that are part of this sporting event».
The former President of the USA is expected to travel to Zurich, Switzerland to speak with the FIFA Selection Committee before they make a decision.
Bill Clinton along with other personalities such as Drew Carey and Morgan Freeman (as well as Spike Lee and Brad Pitt) have expressed their support for the US to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. While the USA is competing against countries such as Qatar and Australia, it appears that the supporters of the bid from America will continue.
The webpage of the US Bidding Committee has been going non-stop at least in Miami Florida with one of the sports programs expressing their support for the USA.
The USA deserves to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup (independent of my support of the US Football/Soccer Team and my residence in America) for the reason that the sport is maturing in this country.
The people are playing football/soccer in the USA at an increasing rate with clubs in schools and places of work. I have seen people practicing the sport in places such as Tropical Park [here in Miami] as well as in the area of Kendall.
The sport is not just exclusive of the Upper Classes as many people think. The growing presence of people from other countries where football/soccer is a pasttime have contributed to the growth of the sport.
While there are stadiums that have multiple use, the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is one used exclusively for soccer by the local team Miami FC. We cannot forget the agreements between CD Chivas USA and Chivas of Guadalajara as well as Real Salt Lake and Real Madrid.
If the US is awarded the 2022 FIFA World Cup, I am planning to purchase a shirt or uniform of the US Soccer Team to show my support.
