Pilots in training learn the importance of trusting the instruments and not their eyes for flying at night and in bad weather when visibility is poor. I have heard people say “I have to see it to believe it.” As a matter of fact I have probably said the same thing many times.  A number of years ago I became acquainted with Richard Bach through his fictional writings. Bach is a former Air Force pilot and airplane mechanic turned mystic, philosopher and author. All of his books somehow deal with flying as a metaphor of life. Richard tells us “Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you’ll see the way to fly.”  Scripture also teaches us that spiritual blindness is more limiting than the physical type. The eyes of understanding are the eyes of the soul and they can see worlds that our physical eyes cannot perceive. Who knows, perhaps you already know all you need to be happy, successful, and to make our world a better place. Not trusting your eyes is living by faith. Don’t be afraid to believe. Go for it. Fly!
