PATRON SAINT DAY CELEBRATION OF THE ROYAL FAMILY  SAINT ANDREW THE FIRST CALLED

Belgrade, 13 December 2011 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine, celebrated today The Royal Family’s Patron Saint Day – Saint Andrew the First Called in the Royal Palace in Belgrade.

In the morning, the Divine Liturgy was served in The Royal Chapel of Saint Andrew the First Called by His Grace Bishop Lavrentije of Sabac and His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija, accompanied by the clergy of the Belgrade-Karlovci Metropolitanate. Traditionally His Holiness Patriarch Irinej leads the service, but this year His Holiness is visiting the United States.

The ceremony of the cutting ofSlava cake followed in the Blue Room of The Royal Palace.

The Holy Liturgy and Slava lunch was also attended by HE Mr.Predrag Markovic, Minister of Culture, media and information society, members of the Privy Council, Mr.Dragomir Acovic and Mr. Dusan Babac, members of the Crown Council, Mr. Matija Beckovic, Prof. Dr.Miroslav Gasic, Mrs. Svetlana Velmar-Jankovic, Prof. Dr.Dragoljub Kavran, Prof. Dr. Predrag Palavestra, Dr. Milan Parivodic, Prof. Dr.Bogoljub Sijakovic, and members of the Crown Cabinet Mr.Djordje Djurisic, Mr. Djurdje Ninkovic, Mr. Mirko Petrovic, Mr.Milorad Savicevic and Mr. Vladan Vukosavljevic.

Slava lunch was attended by His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Backa, His Grace Atanasije, Vicar Bishop of Hvostno,His Grace Hrizostom, Bishop of Zica, His Grace Jovan, Bishop of Sumadija, His Grace  Lavrentije, Bishop of Sabac, His Grace Joanikije, Bishop of Budimlje and Niksic, His Grace Vasilije, Bishop of Zvornik and Tuzla, His Grace Pahomije, Bishop of Vranje, His Grace David, Bishop of Krusevac, His Grace Andrej Vicar Bishop of Remesiana, and also by other religious leaders, the Rabbi of the Jewish Community in Serbia Mr. Isak Asiel, H.E. Archbishop Orlando Antonini, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See, H.E. Monsignor Stanislav Hocevar, the Roman Catholic Metropolitan and Archbishop of Belgrade, Reverend Leopold Rohmes, the Vicar of Belgrade Bishopric, His Grace Dr. Ladislav Nemet, Bishop of Zrenjanin, Mr. Veli Mehmedalija, Imam of Sabac.

During the Slava lunch after the ceremony, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander addressed the distinguished guests and friends emphasizing: “I am very pleased that we have gathered today in theRoyal Palace, to celebrate St. Andrew The First Called.  “Krsna Slava” is festivity of each home, spiritual flame that we gather around, and I want to express my gratitude to all who came here today”.

In the afternoon and evening Their Royal Highnesses welcomed representatives of the Government, Diplomatic Corps, members of the Privy Council, Crown Council, Crown Cabinet, as well city and town Mayors, academics, representatives of the Armed Forces, Police, Monarchy clubs, international organizations, Rotary Clubs, cultural institutions, sports associations, the media, health institutions, and numerous distinguished persons from the cultural, political, business, academic and public life of Serbia during Slava receptions at 4 pm and 7 pm.

 

During evening reception, there were present H.E. Mr. Michael Davenport, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, H.E. Mr. Daniel Banu, Ambassador of Romania, H.E. Mr. Wolfram Maas, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany, H.E: Mr. Christer Asp, Ambassador of Sweden, H.E. Mrs. Mercedes Ruiz Zapata, Ambassador of Mexico, H.E.
