Jhonny K is one of the emerging artists in the year 2012 and his music is being felt. I had the honor of visiting his You Tube page and the music was great. I discovered that his new album «Awake and Arise» will be hitting the markets this spring.

I decided to interview Jhonny K to talk about music and his career. The rest is history.

1. How did you get started in the music business?

—-I grew up playing trumpet and performing in local concerts.  I did not really sing until I was in high school and I noticed the girls liked it.  I recorded my first album 4 years ago just wanting to record at a professional level music that I wrote… Was a dream of mine and I accomplished it.  I love the influence that music can have in a positive way in people’s lives and i wanted to have that same effect.

 

2. Who were your musical idols and what did you learn from them to form your own style of music?

My dad loved Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Moody Blues so I heard a lot of that and my mom loved ABBA and Neil Diamond.  They have major influence on my song writing and performing.  Besides those listed above my idols are Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots, Louis Armstrong, Kenny Wayne SHepard, Incubus and U2.

 

3. What inspires you to record a song?

I record music every day!  I record professionally when I know I have a powerful hook with killer and rocking melodies.  When its something that I would listen to, then I know I can record it.

 

4. Have you composed your own songs?

Yes hundreds, literally.

 

5. Have you done any concerts?

Yes I have played all over the country, Denver, Salt Lake CIty, Albuquerque, Nashville,  Orlando, NYC, Chicago, and many other places.

 

6. What do you find in a song before interpreting it and recording it?

— I have to find the soul of the song… if the soul of the song and mine mix well… then I record it.

 

7. What is your advice to those who seek a career in music?

 Be persistent, network like crazy and if you want to work in the industry, its not selling out to consider music and your personal music a business and a product.  Treat it like that and DONT BE FLAKY!!!!

 

8. What is your message to the world?

My message to the world is that we are here to live a full loving powerful life.  SO many of us do not live up to the potential that is inside of us…. we are held back by chains that hold us down… chains of addiction, family hurts, failed love relationships, abuse and so on…. But we have hope and can choose so much more… we can be free.  I want to help others rise to that level of freedom through my music.
