An Evening With Sonia Eden: The Queen of 21st Century Jazz and Soul

Sonia Eden is one of the newest singers who is making a positive contribution to jazz. Ms. Eden is from Barbados which is the home of today’s greatest jazz artists.

The interview was conducted via E Mail from Florida to the Barbados and back. The rest is history.

What made you decide in a career in the entertainment field?

I’ve always been passionate about music…I’d be at work and have all these melodies running through my mind…I’d sneak off to the bathroom to get them down on my recorder….or hide under my desk and sing into the recorder…..it got so overwhelming that that i finally decided to stop denying my true love and just go with it.

Who are your musical idols and what did you learn from them in order to form a style that is Sonia Eden?

I’ve been influenced by so so many great artists…I’ve always loved Bob Marley,Sting,Sade, so many others…I’ve listened to as much music as i can get my hands and my ears on…I think most of the artists i love are real and authentic…they are unique…and i like that…i like to craft and create my own style and sound.
My sound has also been greatly influenced by my producer Duane Skerritt as well….he worked with me on Truth Love and Life…we have a great chemistry in the studio.
My sound is still evolving and growing…so stay tuned..lol

You recorded Truth. Love, and Life. What inspired you to record the album?

Truth Love and Life…is about a journey….the album is about the pieces of my experiences/my emotions as a person, writer.singer…It entails struggle,Love,Loss,Pain,Joy…all those emotions we experience every day…just expressed in my own voice and style.

Your song I’m Not Over Love which is part of the album and is appreciated in You Tube is great. What inspired you to record this song?

The title for the song came from a friend…one day while expressing his frustration over a romantic relationship…he said»I’m not over Love,Love is over me» we looked around at each other and off we went…writing, crafting and arranging in the studio…we each had the experience of being rejected in love…so it was intimately personal for all of us…lol

Do you write your material?

I do….don’t know where I’d be if i didn’t write

Have you performed your songs and the album in the world?

I toured the UK last summer and I’m hoping to do more travelling and touring this summer.

How long did it take for you to record I’m Not Over Love and Truth, Love, and Life?

«I’m not over Love»….we worked on that song for about two months….writing/arranging/recording /mixing and mastering…Truth Love and Life as a body of work has taken four years to bring it to this point.

What is your message for the world?

Love!! Sharing..connecting…giving…harmony…we all have something to offer..to contribute..My music is one of the pieces of myself which i offer.

I want to thank you Sonia for this interview and sharing love and harmony to the world. It is hoped that there is another interview on the horizons. Best wishes for you in Barbados from Florida. Here are the webpages of Sonia Eden if you are interested in her music.
