“Be Still and Know”

I wonder how many of you know what a typewriter is or how many even have one. Mine was stored in the attic, but now it is in my in my home office. I just ordered the ribbons that will allow me to type both with black or red letters. This typewriter is more like a time machine that will take me back to my college days. However; I am writing this meditation on my laptop computer because I like the fast speed and the convenience of memory, correcting errors and deleting words while editing. I know that it is going to be difficult to slow down to typewriter speed. I also think that speed in all manifestations is harmful to the human soul. Humans are not complete until we come to be in relationship and knowledge of the Creator Spirit. So many people would like proof that God is real, but because we are living and moving at high speed, we totally miss the ultimate reality. The Psalmist advises us to “be still and know that I am God.” (Ps 46:10) If slowing down is so hard, being still is next to humanly impossible. I might address some envelopes with the old typewriter, but its real purpose will be to remind me to slow down and perhaps be still from time to time. When we master the art of being still, life is renewed, harmony is restored and knowledge of the unknowable is achieved. I must close now since I am in a hurry to slow down. Try being still for a while, you might hear God’s voice when the noise quiets down.
