USA DEFEATS MEXICO IN LEGENDS CUP 2014 AT STUBHUB CENTER
Los Angeles, California (Monday, June 2, 2014) – USA Legends and Mexico Legends renewed their rivalry at the StubHub Center on Sunday night at the Legends Cup 2014, produced by PRIMETIME Sports. The Stars and Stripes battled El TRI in a close match between the legends from both sides. It had been two years since these squads met in Carson and Mexico came back looking to avenge their 2-0 loss, counting on their top talent like Zague, Francisco Palencia, and Rámon Morales. The USA Legends led by Steve Sampson and key players like Eric Wynalda, Chris Klein, and Roy Lassiter did not let this happen as the game ended USA 2 – Mexico 1. The official attendance for the game was 14,786.
Alves scored early in the first half and helped Mexico gain the initial lead. Mexican fans were exited by their team’s performance as EL TRI took control and had most of the possession in the first half. Jovan Kirovsky equalized late in the match at the 71st minute with a brilliant strike that brought the fans to their feet. After an error from the Mexican goalkeeper Adrián Chávez, Razov buried one in at ‘88 minutes and secured the lead for USA. Mexico was able to get more shots on target but it was the USA Legends who were able to capitalize on their opportunities, ending up with the Cup. The sponsors for Legends Cup 2014 included Chevrolet, Lowe’s, Hi-Chew, Curacao, Metro PCS, Freeway Insurance, and Ticketon.com
