“Your Legacy”

I have known a few people who have received an inheritance from parents, grandparents, other relatives or even friends. We tend to think of an inheritance in terms of money or other forms of material value. It could be jewels, land, a house or an old car. A friend once invited me for lunch, took me into his workshop and invited me to take any of his old hand tools that I could use. The right advice or simple words of encouragement from a the right person can be more valuable than pure gold. When King David was about to die he called his son Solomon and gave him his last instructions: “My time to die has come. Be confident and determined, and do what the Lord your God orders you to do.” (I Kings 2:1-3a” People in public office are often remembered by their legacy of accomplishments during their years of service. Everyone, regardless of status can leave important words with others. Think of people you love and remind them to live with confidence, determination and accountability. We must learn to live by them ourselves before we can pass them on to others as part of our legacy. Just like I plan to pass on those old hand tools to my son, the wisdom of David is a gift we all can give to those inside our circle of caring. Wisdom is more valuable than gold!
