“Navigation”

I suppose many of you remember the days when everyone had at least one of those folding maps from the oil companies in the car’s glove compartment. Many new cars now come with optional navigation systems. They sell, because people do not like to get lost. We tend to set many goals and courses to follow in life. We do it for school, work, family, finances, vacations and more. However; when it comes to the spiritual direction of our lives many people just drift with the waves and wind. The consequences of being spiritually adrift can be disastrous. Before the advent of navigational aids, ancient mariners and travelers took their bearings from a formation of starts called The Northern Cross in the constellation of Cygnus. Slow down a bit to “look up” and confirm that you are on the correct course. Summer is a great time to ensure that our life bearings are true. Look up to the heavens and ponder the magnificent creation of which we are a very small part. David the Psalmist said: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Ps 19:1) Elevate your own heart-felt prayers and ask for direction so that you can reach your God intended destination. Listen carefully and follow the instructions of Spirit while you enjoy your life journey. Literally look up to the heavens with your eyes, but also with your heart. Let God’s glory and His handiwork help you navigate on your way to your destination. Maps are of no use here and expensive navigational options can’t be ordered. Each of us already has what it takes to set and stay the course!
