Libertarian Party : A Rising Movement In America

Taking into account the state of America, the Alvarez-Galloso News Hour decided to interview representatives of alternative parties. The purpose is to show our readers that alternatives exist and that people should vote their conscience without manipulation.

Another purpose is to show the world that they do not need to revolve around leadership that exchange insults instead of engaging issues.

We have invited various members of the Libertarian and Green Party to be interviewed. Brad Omland accepted our invitation and here are the results.

The opinions expressed are of the interviewee and we are just simply presenting alternatives. The rest is for you to decide after being informed.

  1. What is the Libertarian Party?

The Libertarian Party is a libertarian political party founded in 1971 that supports civil liberties, non-interventionism, laissez-faire economics, and the abolition of the welfare state. Gary Johnson was a two-term Republican governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003. He was highly regarded as Governor for his budgeting abilities.

In eight years, Johnson cut taxes six times and still left the state with a budget surplus when he left office in 2003. He was one of the first governors in the country to openly support the legalization of marijuana. Since his time in office, he has worked as an advisor and entrepreneur for numerous student organizations. Recreationally, Johnson is an extreme athlete who enjoys skiing, running, and mountaineering.

  1. Why has the Libertarian Party received more publicity in this election cycle than in previous ones?

The Libertarian Party has received more publicity in this election cycle than in previous ones because the American people are demanding an alternative. According to the New York Times, only 9% of the total American population voted for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the primaries, yet here they are as our Presidential candidates.

People are sick of the side show of the election cycle and the borderline criminal histories of both Clinton and Trump. Clinton was unabashedly excused for her handling of both Benghazi and her State Department e-mails. Anyone in a lesser position of authority would be jailed like Chelsea Manning or exiled like Edward Snowden for such carelessness.

Trump, meanwhile, has filed for bankruptcy six times. He is a loose cannon whom both Secret Service agents and national security experts deem a risk. Trump is both a compulsive liar and an unapologetic racist. President Obama is correct when he says that Trump is unfit to be President. The office of the Presidency requires eloquence, tact, and empathy. Trump has none of the qualities.

The American people have both the right and the responsibility to elect a President who can chivalrously uphold the prestige of the office. This is why they are looking away from Clinton and Trump.

  1. What can Gary Johnson and the Libertarian Party do for America with regards to health care and reforming it?

The Libertarian Party supports a free-market healthcare system. Health insurance should be tailored to levels of individual care and not offered in government-mandated packages.

  1. What is the Libertarian Party position on immigration and foreign policy?

The Libertarian Party supports the movement of free people while also recognizing the need for border protection to support national security. As the governor of a border state, Gary Johnson is uniquely qualified to handle the delicate issue of balancing the needs of those seeking a better life and keeping away those who wish to harm us.

The Libertarian Party supports a foreign policy of peace. Gary Johnson believes the formation ISIS is the result of blowback for meddling in the affairs of the Middle East for the last 15 years. The LP and Johnson want to avoid nation building and policing and instead focus on domestic policy that fosters a strong America.

  1. What is the Libertarian’s position on Family?

The Libertarian Party believes the government should be left out of the issue of abortion. Instead, the decision to abort should be left to the individual conscious. The LP also believes in the free association of people to love and support who they want.

  1. Why is the Libertarian Party considered a Party of Love and Healing in America?

That is the first time I’ve heard the LP described as a party of love and healing. However, I believe some could regard it in this way because the LP has not had to rely on fear to justify the existence of its politicians. The LP is a party of peace and freedom. There is a profound level of self-actualization among people who are free to do as they please without fear of persecution.

  1. What will be the domestic policy [in regards to taxes and jobs] of a Libertarian Govenrment should it ever come to power?

The Libertarian Party calls for the repeal of the income tax and the abolishment of the IRS. The LP believes in fostering a robust free market economy that allows for the easy start-up of corporations, cooperatives, and other organizations. People have a right to work and associate as they please.

  1. What can people do in order to regain liberty in America?

There is more to gaining liberty than simply voting. The recent movements of freedom and liberty are grassroots movements that have required a decade or more of work. Get involved in local politics, write your Congressmen, write letters to the editor, support a non-profit organization that educates people on your favorite issue. Educate yourself on state and local laws regarding property and taxes, ownership of firearms, and interactions with police.

Simply put – do not sit idly on the sidelines. If you care about something, take action to implement your vision. The Libertarian Party is just the entity that competes in the political arena on behalf of the liberty movement. There are hundreds of other non-profit organizations to get involved with that can change the hearts and minds of society from the bottom up.

  1. The elite has criticized the Libertarian Party for its stance on marijuana. Can the LP clarify its stance on Medical Marijuana?

What criticism do you speak of? The Libertarian Party supports the use of marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes and was the first of the three parties to take such a stance.

  1. Many people in the world erroneously look to America as a place where money grows everyplace and opportunities are automatic or a given. There are others who act on this mythology and come to America and end returning to their countries. What is your response to these people concerning America?

With great freedom comes great responsibility. America is a place of wealth and prosperity but it doesn’t come easy.

  1. What is your message to the world from America about the new realities taking place here?

The reality is the Libertarian Party doesn’t need to win in 2016 to make an impact on the American electorate. Right now, the LP is rallying its base to gain 15% in the polls to gain access to the national debates versus Clinton and Trump. In the general election, the LP needs just 5% of the popular vote, 1 in 20, to gain access to up to gain nationwide ballot access and $3 million in matching campaign funds from the FEC in 2020. These are realistic and attainable goals that the LP and its supporters should focus on in 2016 to maximize impact in the future.

Do not let others manipulate you into voting for Clinton or Trump. These people do not care about you. They are only concerned with their personal agendas. If you are so concerned about casting a ballot for one candidate as a way to prevent the election of another, perhaps it is time to look past the candidates and to the system as a whole that brought them about.  Taking responsibility for your personal freedom requires courage. Will you step up to be the 1 in 20 in November?

-Brad Omland

Our thanks to Mr. Omland  for accepting our invitation to this interview in the hope to bring civilized discourse to a nation in need of it. You are masters of your own destiny and should not be manipulated into the “lesser evil” syndrome. You are the owner of your vote and of the consequences if it is not done after receiving more information. Thank you and until the next time.
