During the decades of the 1990s, the Federal Government [USA] passed a law called COPPA which is also known as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act which deals with personal information from children. Many sites had complied with this law but unfortunately [according to the FTC or Federal Trade Commission] You Tube and Google did not obey the law.
The result was a lawsuit against Google and You Tube which resulted in a settlement. This settlement is a fine of $170 Million with 136 going to the Federal coffers and 34 going to New York as they were also party in this lawsuit.
As a result of what is happening, You Tubers have to classify their videos as child or adult oriented in order to avoid a fine of $42000. If the FTC and You Tube were to make a raid or sweep of the You Tubers Channel and find that the video was misclassified [by the You Tuber], then the Channel receives a fine for each video that is non compliant.
It appears that this has been a case of a modern day washing of hands to give responsibility to You Tube creators ALL OVER THE WORLD or pay. The creators have to pay for the errors of a large corporation and a government that is unable to honor its financial obligations.
After a careful review of the options, we have decided to leave You Tube and we are deleting all of our videos as this article is being written. We will be switching to other platforms such as Facebook Live, Instagram Live, WordPress [where we have been since 2007], Bitchute, and Vimeo while leaving an extremely minimal presence in You Tube.
Many small businesses are going to be affected because of this decision which will be an infamous day for Freedom in America like mines. I may lose or win but the losers are the consumers who yearn for an alternative to the LAMESTREAM MEDIA and their mediocrity.
For the corporations who may gloat about the demise of competition, all I can say that eventually the government can use the same laws to eliminate you from business. For the politicians of Washington and New York [who are imperialists by nature], maybe you can collect the fine from every You Tube creator in the world and minimize us but that does not make up for the debt [and waste] that you created and passed on to future generations as well as placing their financial lives in danger.
For those who have hope, please feel free to sign the petition by Jeremy Johnson to the FTC and send a comment to their website which I did. For now, I would like to thank You Tube for the experience with them and wish them the best.
I also want to thank the FTC for giving me the opportunity to grow professionally. Until next time.
