A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Vĩnh Tài

Each time the afternoon pulls light into night
it has been a while since the phone rang
the forbearance as I watched the afternoon
pulls slowly the light into the night
into stars
shimmering sadness
loneliness
if it is not love please night allow not the fall of
songs
regret
if it is not love I beg thee give not hope
let me drift alone with the river
murmurs
of nothingness
perhaps love is real
turning the rain white washing over the afternoon
a wet leafy hut at the turn of the road
you’re softer than so much
it has been awhile since the phone rang
and I miss
the ringtone cutting short my breathe
each time the afternoon pulls light into night…
