For the North Dakota Legislative Branch:
I am writing in opposition to HB 1255 and in support of Prairie Public for one reason. It is an institution that is worth preserving since it promotes North Dakota culture to the world.
This is a necessity taking into account that Mainstream Media in America and the world only promotes the well-known faces of America such as New York, Miami, or Los Angeles. The USA is not only the cities inside its borders, it is the states and rural areas with their musicians that make it great.
In that capacity, Prairie Public promotes the artists of North Dakota such as Jessie Veeder, Lonesome Willy, Dakota Pro Musica, and Annabelle Maher [as well as the Midnight Noise Orchestra] to the world. Many people including myself appreciate the work of Prairie Public in this capacity even though I see the programs on the Internet and You Tube from my home in Miami, Florida.
After all, I am a Midwesterner from Ohio supporting fellow Midwesterners in their art and music because they symbolize North Dakota and America. It would be a crime if funding were to stop for Prairie Public and these above-mentioned voices would be silenced [or reduced to a minimum] in favor of the toxicity of today’s mainstream culture.
It is for this reason that Prairie Public deserves support in the form of opposing HB 1255. Prairie Radio is a cultural icon from North Dakota worth preserving.
