OPEN LETTER TO MEXICO
On the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, I would like to congratulate the people of the American Continent especially Mexico.
Unfortunately, there are prisoners in Mexico whose crime has been to leave Cuba and ask for Political Asylum. One of the Asylum Seekers is a Member of the Opposition.
The US Latin TV Station America Teve and its programme “Seguro Q Yes” dedicated a special programme to these who are unfortunate to be a Cuban in a Mexican Prison. The programme included as Guest Stars, the Mexican Singer Alondra, the Reporter Maria Fernanda Lopez, the Cuban Singer Franco, and a relative of one of the prisoners.
America Teve was able to speak with one of the prisoners via a telephone and questions were asked by the host and by Maria Fernanda Lopez. The response was “Thirty Years in Jail and The Firing Squad”.
I love the people of Mexico but their government cannot ask the people of the USA to accept Mexicans while they deport Cuban Nationals and others. It is also surreal that the Government of Mexico accepted Spaniards leaving Franco’s Spain in the 1930’s and Chileans leaving Pinochet’s Chile in 1973. What is the difference between the Cubans under Castro and the above mentioned.
In fact, there is no mention of Communist Atrocities in Cuba or in Nandigram in India.
I also condemn the US Government in its treatment of Mexicans who only wants to work to support their family since it is almost impossible to do this in Mexico.
I ask the Virgin of Guadalupe [whose day coincides with my wife’s birthday] to intercede for these Cubans who are suffering in Mexican Jails. I would also like to thank the US Latin Station America Teve and its programme “Seguro Q Yes” for the special programme. Last but not least, My thanks to the artists such as Alondra, Franco, and the reporter Maria Fernanda Lopez as well as the host of Seguro Q Yes for their effort.
