Happy New Year!
THE DAILY LIBERTY DOT COM
I am delighted to report that my gift to Libertarians across America,
TheDailyLiberty.com
is now in operation. Happy New Year!
The Daily Liberty is an internet web site. Its operation is quite
deliberately patterned after Daily Kos, the extremely successful
progressive Democratic Party web site.
The Daily Liberty is not a blog. Anyone who wants can post a diary.
Invited writers can post left column articles. Anyone who wants can
post comments, though those can be rated. Correspondingly, Diaries can
be recommended; highly-recommended Diaries rise to the top. The site
does have a spam suppression scheme.
A number of volunteers have tested various site features. The beta
testing appears to have been successful. The Daily Liberty will soon be
moving from the Beta phase to the continuous improvement phase.
The Daily Liberty is owned by Philip Reed of Alabama. He did all the
software work, found the ISP, and prepared everything else. I wrote
specifications for a project in which I was willing to buy ad space,
which I have done. If any of you want to rent ad space, contact Philip
Reed <philipreedtech@gmail.com>; TheDailyLiberty.com is his baby.
Some of you will ask why we need TheDailyLiberty.com. Don’t we have
enough blogs? The answer is that TheDailyLiberty is not a blog.
Article posting is not restricted to an elite few, with the great masses
only allowed to comment. Instead, TheDailyLiberty operates in a
democratic manner–posting privileges for diaries are generally
available. No longer do you have to wait for someone to post an article
on the right topic, before you post your three thousand words of
commentary. You can post your commentary right now as a diary.
The Diary structure worked very well for DailyKos, which as a result of
its ability to mobilize progressive opinion played a significant role in
transferring control of Congress over to the Democratic Party. I
believe Daily Kos’s success was due in considerable part to its data
structure and interface, and am seeking to replicate its political
efforts for people having a different political bent.
However, Diary-based web sites of this sort will only succeed if they
have wide participation. Please join your fellow Libertarians at
