Olga Ta~non: International Superstar

Olga Ta~non is one of the Queens of Merengue along with other singers of the genre such as Milly Jocelyn, Vickiana, and even Taty Salas. She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in the year 1967 to a middle class family. Her ambition was to become a singer and to help people through her music.

Her Musical Career got off to a brilliant star as a member of the group called «Las Nenas de Ringo y Josie» [Ringo’s and Josie’s Girls]. It was during that time that she recorded albums and performed with this group in radio and TV.

While singing, representatives of the group Chantelle noticed her voice and she signed the group. It was during her period with Chantelle that she recorded her only hit called «Aunque Tu No Quieras» [Even If You Do Not Want It] which was a Merengue Hit Sensation throughout Latin America and the Spanish Speaking Areas within the USA.

In 1992, she decided to launch her solo career by signing with WEA Latina. Her First Album with WEA Latina «Sola» [Alone] was a big hit with songs such as «Me Cambio por Ella» (I’ll Trade With Her) and «Quiero estar Contigo» (I Want to Be with You). She followed that success with another album which gave her the nickname «Mujer de Fuego» [Woman of Fire]. In this second album, she showed her talent as a composer with her song «»Presencié tu Amor» (I Felt Your Love).

In 1994, she recorded her album «»Siente el Amor» (Feel the Love) in which she gained three platinum records and featured her composition to the rhythm of salsa «Unicornio» [Unicorn].

Olga Ta~non proved that she was versatile by debuting as Mary Magdalene in the Puerto Rican Version of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1997. She also recorded a Tex Mex Album with Mexican Singer Marco Antonio Solis. Olga Ta~non also performed with Alejandro Fernandez in the USA

Olga Ta~non proved that music is universal by recording a duo with the Egyptian Singer Hakim which proved to be a success in the Middle East. The song was called «Ah Ya Albi»

In the year 2000, she performed live at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida and recorded a Live Album.

Subsequently, she changed record companies until eventually signing with Univision Records in 2006.

I do not want to get involved in the gossip or her personal life since the artists deserves privacy. Another reason is that the author believes that the artist profile should deal with the career and the humanitarian gestures of the artists.

Olga Ta~non also made public that her daughter suffers from a rare disease called Sebastian’s Syndrome. Since then, the proceeds from her records have gone to find a cure for Sebastian’s Syndrome. I understand her plight since I suffer from a form of Angioedema that has a C 1 Esterase Inhibitor Deficiency [and that it is a rare disease for which there is no cure].

I would personally like to wish Olga Ta~non the best in finding a cure for Sebastian’s Syndrome and thank her for being a great artist on and off the stage.
