AFC East In My Opinion

My 2008 Football Predictions apply to the AFC East. The following is based on what I have seen in the AFC East in the NFL Website and on what I saw in the AFC East Teams in Television.

INTRODUCTION

It has been two weeks since the 2008-2009 NFL Season started and the AFC East appears to have been off to a solid start. The New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills have been winning their games. The Miami Dolphins has yet to win a game and they are due play against the New England Patriots. The New York Jets won their first game against the Miami Dolphins only to lose to the New England Patriots.

In the other divisions of the AFC; we have the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens undefeated in the AFC North, the Tennessee Titans undefeated in the AFC South, the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. The NFC and their divisions have the following results; The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are currently undefeated in the NFC East while the Green Bay Packers are undefeated in the NFC North. The Carolina Panthers are undefeated in the NFC South and the Arizona Cardinals are undefeated in the NFC West.

AFC EAST IN THE PRESENT AND POSSIBLE FUTURE

I. MIAMI DOLPHINS

The Miami Dolphins were expected to be the team that will go all the way to the playoffs and maybe the Super Bowl. Sparano and company [including The Tuna a.k.a. Bill Parcells] were expected to turn around a team that was in total agony after winning only one game in the 2007-2008 NFL Season. I am a Miami Dolphins fan but I cannot see a victory for the Miami Dolphins unless there is a radical change as mentioned in previous articles.

The only addition to what I have suggested in obtaining a victory is that the Miami Dolphins may have to change their practice tactics. It is not easy to practice in an area where there is almost no terrain. The Miami Dolphins will have to do their practice in the mountains of the Midwest [North Dakota, South Dakota, and Ohio] or Alaska. I am talking about a tough classical football practice under the elements [snow, rain, sleet, fog, and hail] as well as under different topographies [mountains, and hills]. The practice would have to be in the style of preparing for the Winter or Summer Olympics. Unless I see this, the Miami Dolphins may not win this season or any season in the near and distant future. The Miami Dolphins lost to the New York Jets, the Arizona Cardinals, and will lose to the New England Patriots. There are some people who are predicting an upset by the Miami Dolphins against New England but that remains to be seen.

II. THE NEW YORK JETS

Brett Favre retired, took back his retirement, and signed with the New York Jets. While the Green Bay Packers without Favre have been undefeated in the NFC North, the New York Jets won their first game against the Miami Dolphins and lost it to the New England Patriots. I am not impressed with the New York Jets with Favre. I am willing to predict that the Jets will lose their power within the NFL Season and will lose to the Arizona Cardinals who are a power to be reckoned with in the NFC West and beyond. The New York Jets may have a chance to defeat the San Diego Chargers but they will have to overcome the mistakes made while losing to the New England Patriots such as being unable to take advantage of opportunities to score in the first half and being penalized for sixty yards six times. The New York Jets and Brett Favre is another team that remains to be seen.

III. BUFFALO BILLS

The Buffalo Bills have had an undefeated season as of 9-18-2008 since they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars [who are 0-2] and the Seattle Seahawks [0-2]. The Buffalo Bills have been able to win since they have been playing against weak teams. The Buffalo Bills may be able to defeat the Oakland Raiders [1-1] and the St. Louis Rams [0-2] but they are no match for the Arizona Cardinals. The Buffalo Bills will run out of luck when they face the Arizona Cardinals.

IV. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

The New England Patriots were expected to be eliminated from contention after Brady’s injury.  The New England Patriots were the surprise that came from the AFC East after defeating the New York Jets [1-1] and the Kansas City Chiefs [0-2]. Cassel has proved the critics wrong and has become the newest quarterback sensation after replacing Brady. I will not be surprised that the New England Patriots will win most of their games and have a possibility of arriving at the playoffs with a chance at another Super Bowl title. I will not be surprised if Brady is replaced by Cassel as the New England Patriots Quarterback. Again, there are people in Miami who are thinking that an upset may occur when the Dolphins battle the Patriots. I am hoping for that upset but again I am keeping my fingers crossed.

CONCLUSION

Unless there is a big change within the next NFL Season, the AFC East will probably belong to the New England Patriots. Whether New England can defeat the other AFC and NFC Teams to get to the Playoffs and the Super Bowl remains to be seen.
