USA 2-0 Honduras in Gold Cup 2009

The US Soccer Team played against Honduras for the Group B Berth in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2009. The game took place before an excited crowd of almost 27,000 at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.

The first half started uneventfully with both teams competing for possession of the ball and game. Honduras and the US Soccer Team had received yellow cards for misconduct but both continued to attempt to score. Both teams lost opportunities to score when they conceded the ball to each other and missing the goal post in the process.

The end of the first half was uneventful with people wandering if there would be overtime.

The second half was more intense than the first but without any sparks until the end. Honduras kept making mistake after mistake which favoured the US Team. In the 75th minute, Santino Quaranta scored the first goal of the game and of his career followed by Brian Ching who scored the second goal. Brian Ching also scored the tenth goal of his career.

Honduras never recovered from the two goals and played in an attempt to score. Walter Martinez [Honduras] received a caution which demoralized Honduras. The USA was fatigued but was able to maintain itself. Regardless, Michael Parkhurst received a yellow card.

Regardless, it was all over with the US Soccer team at 12-3-3 and being in first place in Group B with 6 points.

The most valued player is Santino Quaranta for his first goal of the game and in his career.
