The world of football [soccer] has suffered a serious blow with the death of Robert Enke. Mr. Enke was a 32 year old goalkeeper for the German National Football [Soccer] Team as well as the world famous Hannover 96.
He has been suffering from an ailment which lead him to withdraw from the German National Team before its game against Azerbaijian. He has played with various teams such as Benfica, FC Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach, Carl Zeiss Jena, and Hannover 96.
Mr. Enke was also the recipient of many awards including runner up to the UEFA European Football Championship as well as 2009 Best Bundesliga Goalkeeper. In spite of his success, his disease affected him to the point that he killed himself by jumping in front of a train in Neustatdt am Rubenberge.
He will be surely missed.

The world of football [soccer] especially Germany and the Bundesliga team Hannover 96 lost one of its prolific players. His name was Robert Enke
. Robert Enke was born in Jena, Germany on the 24th of August 1977. When he was born, Germany was divided into two countries and Jena was located in the German Democratic Republic or East Germany.
He started early in his career by playing in the youth clubs of SV Jena Pharm and Carl Zeiss Jena. He made the transition from youth to senior and professional with the last mentioned club. Robert Enke later played for clubs such as Borussia Monchengladbach, Benfica, FC Barcelona, and Hannover 96
. He made a total of two hundred and eighty nine appearances in his career.
Robert Enke was also a player for the German National Team as well as being on loan to Fenerbahce and Tenerife. He was also the recipient of the the Best Bundesliga Goalkeeper Award for 2009 and was runner up for the UEFA European Football Championship. Regardless, all of the success that he had could not compensate for the tragedy he had off the field and on the field.
He was traumatized by the act of repudiation that he received from the fans of Fenerbahce after a humiliating defeat to Istanbulspur. Enke was able to finish early his one year loan to the Turkish Football [Soccer] club and transfer to Tenerife where he was able to enjoy some success.
Robert Enke had won eight international caps for the German National Football [Soccer] Team and played his last game for the team against Azerbaijan.
While he had a family with his wife Teresa and a daughter Lara, they lost their daughter to a birth defect called hypolastic left heart syndrome which is a congenital defect. It also worsened his depression and he was subjected to psychiatric treatment. Regardless, the couple adopted a baby girl whose name is Leila.
Robert Enke appeared happy but the depression did not allow him to enjoy the finer things in life. It was because of the depression that he went to a railroad crossing in Eilvese Neustadt am Rubenberge on a cold day in November 2009 and jumped to his death. He threw himself in front of an express train.
The response in Germany and the world was overwhelming with a friendly match between Germany and Chile cancelled. The supporters of Hannover 96 went to the AWD Arena [the team’s home] to pay their respects to one of the greatest giants in German Football [Soccer].
It is often wandered what would have happened if Robert Enke would have retired from football [soccer] to enjoy time with his family. The career of a sports personality is a very demanding one and it takes time away from family and friends. It is hoped that Mr. Enke has found the peace that he did not have in life.
