The two clubs Club America and Los Indios of Ciudad Juarez played in the Mexican Bicentennial Tournament of 2010. The date and place was the 31st of January 2010 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The purpose of the game was to show solidarity with Salvador Cabanas. Salvador Cabanas is the member of Club America and the Paraguayan National Football [Soccer] Team who was shot in the frontal area of the head.
Salvador Cabanas was able to watch the game from his hospital bed and make predictions which were true. He was also able to enjoy the game from his hospital bed. The events started with the two teams expressing their solidarity with Salvador Cabanas and the desire for his rapid recovery. Enrique Esqueda served as the substitute for Salvador Cabanas during the entire game. Unfortunately, he was unable to fill the shoes of Salvador Cabanas.
During the entire game, los Indios of Ciudad Juarez were in control of the entire game with Club America and Esqueda learning how to maintain itself. Edwin Santiibanez passed the ball to Emil Martinez. Emil Martinez attempted to score a goal but was blocked by Club America’s Guillermo Ochoa. Enrique Esqueda responded by kicking the ball directly towards the goal post while the goalie was unable to block.
Enrique Esqueda scored the first and only goal of the game by the end of the first half. The result was Club America with one point and Los Indios of Ciudad Juarez with no points. The second half of the game was a continuation of the first half but with Club America being recharged and Los Indios unwilling to play. The attempts to score an equalizer resulted in a failure and the substitutions of Alain Nkong for Arturo Alvarado did not help matters.
The next suibstitutions of Los Indios such as Jair Garcia for Hector Gimenez and Jose Dias for Eliot Huitron made things worse. The substitutions for Club America within the second half of the game such as Sandoval for Martinez, Marquez for Montenegro, and Jose Martinez for Reyna helped Club America.
While the game itself was not spectacular, the important thing was that both teams played in support of Salvador Cabanas. The teams sent a message to Cabanas and his family. The message was that the world of football or soccer knows no boundaries when it comes to one of their own suffering. It is something humanity can learn.
