Chivas USA Notes (0-1 vs. FC Dallas, Pizza Hut Park, Frisco, Texas 8/21/2010)
· Chivas USA fell by a score of 1-0 against FC Dallas on Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. It was the eighth time the Red-and-White loses by a margin of one goal during league-play. With the result, Chivas USA (5-11-4) remains with 19 points, while FC Dallas (9-2-9) now has 36 points, good for third place in the Western Conference.
· FC Dallas, a team that has only lost once at Pizza Hut Park in 2010, scored the only goal of the match at the 71st minute when Dallas’ Brek Shea won a header on a perfect cross from Jair Benitez and put it over the head of Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton and inside the far post. Dallas has an unbeaten streak of 11 games and is 6-1-3 at home this season.
· The Red-and-White had a total of 12 shots during the match but Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who leads the league on saves percentage, was key in maintaining the Red-and-White scoreless with three important saves during the match, two of them on very dangerous headers by defenders Michael Umaña and Darío Delgado during the second half.
· Midfielder Sal Sizzo made his debut with the Red-and-White at the 82nd minute when he substituted Ante Jazic in the match. Chivas USA won the MLS special lottery for the rights to the U.S. midfielder last month.
· Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez on tonight’s match: “We had a very poor first half, we created chances in the second half but their goalkeeper came big… we finished running and fighting, and creating good chances, we knew we were facing a good team.»
