Gulati and Bradley Must Retire From US Soccer

The announcement of the resignation of Roger Burden from his post as FA (English Football Association) Chairman has people thinking about Sunil Gulati and Bob Braldey.

Roger Burden announced his resignation stating that he cannot work with people (in FIFA) that he does not trust.

Sunil Gulati (President of US Soccer) and Bob Bradley (Coach of US Soccer) were at the forefront of the US Soccer bid and its humiliation by FIFA.

Both men should follow the example of Mr. Burden and resign from their positions as a form of protest over the latest voting travesty and to pave the way for a new beginning for US Soccer.

I. Voting Travesty

They should submit their resignations for the sake of dignity to their persons and the US Soccer Team. No one in their right mind could sleep at night knowing that they were part of a charade that was in poor taste.

What Sepp Blatter and FIFA did was prove to the world that they are hypocritical when talking about separating politics from sports

We (the US Soccer family of fans, team members, and chiefs) continued our campaign in spite of Mr. Blatter’s declaration that he preferred an “Arab country hosting the World Cup”.

Mr. Gulati and Mr. Bradley should have protested such declarations from the FIFA President. They could be construed as influencing an election process which was already tainted.

They trusted FIFA in face value with the hope that more than  one million signatures and support from US Soccer supporters would sway FIFA.

They allowed themselves to be stabbed in the back by an organization with a pre-arranged agenda about the country to be selected.

II. A New Beginning

The next reason why both of them should resign is to clear the way for replacements that will take US Soccer away from politics as usual to a new direction.

The old system of doing things in US Soccer have left the system stagnant. It cannot remain the same after 15 years.

The time has come for a new way of thinking with new leadership gradually integrating into US Soccer.

The new level under a new President and Coach of US Soccer would be to gradually phase out the older players such as Landon Donovan and Carlos Bocanegra. The purpose would be to bring new players to the fold.

While this has happened, the replacement of the old guard with the new guard in US Soccer needs to be gradual.

The new President and Coach should also organize competitions for U-20 players and attempt to steer

the MLS [Major League Soccer) in the direction of other leagues that play from August to May.

The next change should come in the form of replacing the 5-4-1 position with 4-4-2 and gettting touch ijn future games.

US Soccer needs a new President and Coach that will treat it as a serious contender instead of a comic relief.

My selection for US Soccer Coach and President would be Jurgen Klinsmann since he is capable of propelling these changes.

III Conclusion

It is hoped that Gulati and Bradley step aside but that remains to be seen. US Soccer cannot remain in limbo and business as usual if we are expected to be taken seriously.

We the supporters of the US Socceer team must rally around our team and ask for these changes. We should also send E Mails, Letters, and phone calls to different TV and Radio Stations asking them for more coverage of our game.

While sad and angered that the US did not get the 2022 FIFA World Cup, I often wander whether the accusations of fraud would have been leveled against the USA if awarded the World Cup for 2022.

I finish my article with a comment for FIFA. You may not like us and wish we would go away. We will never go away. We will keep growing and evolving whether you like it or not.

I hope that FIFA does not make any negative complaints should their selection for the 2022 FIFA World Cup turn out to be less than what was expected. After all, FIFA voted for the country and must live by the decision.
