CHIVAS USA TAKES ON REAL SALT LAKE THIS SATURDAY: Riding high after back-to-back wins, Chivas USA returns to the road this weekend to face Real Salt Lake in Rio Tinto Stadium Saturday at 1:00p.m. PT (TeleFutura, W Radio). The Red-and-White will face a Real Salt Lake side looking to rebound from losses in the CONCACAF Champions league and MLS, against Monterrey and Portland respectively. Chivas USA have put together five consecutive games without a defeat, and will be looking to extend that streak against Kyle Beckerman and Real Salt Lake on Saturday. RED-AND-WHITE SECURE FIRST HOME WIN OF THE SEASON: Chivas USA put together a comprehensive victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday, beating the Eastern Conference opponent 3-0. Alejandro Moreno recorded a goal and two assists in the contest. Nick LaBrocca scored his first goal for The Red-and-White in the 22nd minute, heading home a Ben Zemanski cross. Marcos Mondaini also opened his account for Chivas USA (as well as MLS) with a highlight goal. The Argentine midfielder showed his creative side, rising high to acrobatically finish a cross from Alejandro Moreno. The win moves Chivas USA to 2-2-3 (W-L-T) on the season. MIKE LAHOUD AND CHIVAS USA HELD SUCCESFUL CHARITY ‘BOWLING EXTRAVAGANZA’: Chivas USA’s Mike Lahoud and the club’s charitable organization, Fundación Chivas de Corazón USA, held the First Annual Bowling Extravaganza on Sunday at Lucky Strike Lanes in Torrance. The goal of the event was to raise funds to build a school in Sierra Leone, Africa. Joining the Sierra-Leonean born Lahoud was club Investor and President Antonio Cue as well as several players including Heath Pearce, Zarek Valentin and Justin Braun. The event had a great turn-out from Chivas USA front office staff, fans and supporter groups.
COACH FRASER SET FOR RETURN TO SALT LAKE: The match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday will mark the return of Head Coach Robin Fraser to his former team in Utah. After his distinguished playing career, Fraser spent four years with Real Salt Lake as an assistant coach. Fraser, 44, worked with RSL Coach Jason Kreis, helping lead Real Salt Lake to an MLS championship in 2009. Saturday’s game will be Fraser’s first return to Rio Tinto stadium leading a different team and will also represent Greg Vanney’s return to RSL, where he served as Director of Soccer Operations at Casa Grande, Arizona.
CHIVAS USA RESERVES TO FACE LA GALAXY RESERVES TUESDAY: The Red-and-White reserve team will take on their counterparts from the LA Galaxy on Tuesday at 11:00a.m. PT. The official MLS reserve match is being held in The Home Depot Center’s Track and Field Stadium. Chivas USA is 0-1-1 (W-L-T) this season in the reserve league. The Goats drew 1-1 with Vancouver on April 17th, and fell 3-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes a week later on the 24th.
CHIVAS USA U-18 TEAM PLAY TO DRAW WITH LA GALAXY: The Chivas USA U-18 Team faced the LA Galaxy on Saturday, April 30 at The Home Depot Center. The match finished 2-2, keeping the Red-and-White at the top of the standings in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Western Conference. The Chivas USA U-16 Team also faced the Galaxy on Saturday, falling 1-0. YOUTH TEAM TRYOUTS COMING UP IN BELL GARDENS AND SIMI VALLEY: Chivas USA will be holding ‘Sangre Nueva’ Youth Team tryouts coming up this summer at a pair of locations in Southern California. First is a tryout in Bell Gardens on June 3, followed by another tryout in Simi Valley on July 23. Chivas USA coaching staff members will be in attendance at each of these events to assess and evaluate the entire player pool with the goal of finding players for the Chivas USA Youth Teams. ‘CHIVAS AT THE PARK’ CONTINUES SATURDAY, MAY 14 AT MAR VISTA: Chivas USA has kicked off the popular ‘Chivas at the Park’ program, and will continue the series of soccer clinics taking place in various parks throughout Los Angeles with a session on Saturday, May 14 at the Mar Vista Recreation Center at 11430 Woodbine Ave, Los Angeles, 90066. The clinics, which offer participating boys and girls ages 5-15 the opportunity to learn soccer techniques and practice drills that highlight teamwork in an environment that promotes the importance of fitness for the entire family, cost just $5 and include 90 minutes of soccer instruction, a Chivas at the Park t-shirt, and a certificate of completion.
