Chivas USA Notes – (2-1 defeat vs. FC Dallas, The Home Depot Center, Carson, CA, 6/18/11)
· Michael Lahoud scored his first goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough for the Red-and-White as they fell 2-1 to FC Dallas on Saturday night before 11,253 fans at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
· With the result, Chivas USA’s record moves to 4-6-5 (17 pts) and the team remains in seventh place in the Western Conference. The Red-and-White will head east next weekend to take on the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park on Saturday, June 25, at 4:30 p.m. PT on Prime Time and W Radio 690 AM.
· The visitors opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through midfielder Brek Shea. Shea received a long ball from Andrew Jacobson and found enough space between Chivas USA defenders to finish low past Dan Kennedy from 15 yards.
· Tristan Bowen entered the match in the 63rd minute as a substitute for Justin Braun, making his first appearance since March 26th against Colorado. The 20-year-old Bowen is healthy again after spraining his ankle in April.
· The Red-and-White found an equalizer in the 71st minute as Michael Lahoud scored his first goal of the season. The 24-year-old defender found himself with space and took a shot from thirty yards. The hard and low effort took a big deflection off of FC Dallas defender George John and put goalkeeper Kevin Hartman out of position. The goal was the second of Lahoud’s MLS career.
· Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy made several outstanding saves to keep the match close. The 28-year old goalkeeper had five total saves in the game. Kennedy made highlight reel saves to deny Fabian Castillo breakaways in each half, and dove acrobatically to tip a great Daniel Hernandez freekick off his left post and out of danger in the 80th minute.
· FC Dallas ultimately scored the winning goal in the 85th minute when a miscommunication between Lahoud and Kennedy allowed FC Dallas substitute Jackson to get through on goal and chip the ball past Kennedy.
Chivas USA was missing Alejandro Moreno who is on international duty with Venezuela for the Copa America tournament.
Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser about tonight’s match: “Obviously, we’re extremely disappointed. If you look at the flow of the game, we did a pretty decent job of controlling most of the game and to make a few mistakes and let a game like that slip away with absolutely nothing to show for it is extremely disappointing. There’s an issue of precision that needs to happen in the final third in order to score goals. When we’ve done that, we’ve been effective and tonight, I felt like we were not precise in the final third.”
· The Red-and-White return to training on Tuesday morning at The Home Depot Center, and fly to Philadelphia on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s match. Saturday’s match against the Union kicks off at 4:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Prime Time and W Radio 690 AM.
· Chivas USA’s next home game is against the Chicago Fire, Saturday, July 2nd at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. The match will be broadcast on Prime Ticket and Galavision as well as W Radio 690 AM. For tickets or information on the game, please visit cdchivasusa.com or call 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
