NICK LABROCCA SCORES MLS’ 10,000TH GOAL AND HIS THIRD IN AS MANY GAMES: LaBrocca’s goal this past weekend vs. KC became much more significant than just a go ahead for the Red and White, it signaled quite a milestone for the MLS. Goal number 10,000 for the league in its history, and as if that weren’t enough Nick added to his already stellar 6 goal season, his third in as many games.

RED AND WHITE GAINS GROUND IN THE WESTERN CONFERENCE WITH 4 POINTS IN 2 GAMES: Chivas USA moved up in the Western Conference standings this past week adding 4 more points and gaining two spots in the standings up to 6th place with 22 points. This all after a 2-0 win last Wednesday vs. the San Jose Earthquakes and a 1-1 draw to the Sporting Kansas City in front of a sold-out Livestrong Sporting Park. With these results, Chivas USA’s record moves to 5-7-7 (22 pts) good for a 6th place tie in the Western Conference with San Jose.  For more information on these games, including highlights and reactions, please visit cdchivasusa.com.

CHIVAS USA HELD ITS SECOND “HEART SOCCER CAMPS” FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN: Chivas USA held the second of five «HEART Soccer Camps» last weekend at The Home Depot Center.  The camps are a new and unique outreach initiative that will connect the game of soccer to children and youth with special needs. This second event featured more than fifty children and teens whose parents have either had a second chance to live after receiving a transplant or saved lives by becoming organ donors. This weekend’s clinic was in collaboration with Donate Life California, a long-standing partner of Chivas USA and whose mission is to inspire Californians to save lives by registering to be organ donors. Each camp will be in support of youth facing a variety of illnesses and physical challenges including children with cancer and developmental disorders.  To ensure that the needs of each special needs group is met, each camp will be coordinated with different activities and with the support of specialized staff from participating non-profit groups.  Camps will take place at the Home Depot Center and feature appearances by the ChivaFighter, ChivaGirls, as well as special activities and prizes for both children and families.

CHIVAS USA ANNOUNCES UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP WITH PADRES CONTRA EL CANCER: Chivas USA announced last month an in-depth partnership with PADRES Contra El Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Latino families with children who suffer from cancer and blood disorders.  The mission-driven relationship will support PADRES and include fundraising and awareness campaigns that will engage Chivas USA team members, the team’s own non-profit Fundacion Chivas de Corazon USA, as well as link elements from Chivas USA’s sister-team Club Deportivo Chivas de Guadalajara.  Jimmy Conrad and Mariano Trujillo got things started by visiting a group of children undergoing cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.  The players also taped public service announcements aimed at creating awareness about the need for more individuals to join the national bone marrow registry list. Over the course of this summer, Chivas USA will designate part of the proceeds from the ticket sales from a number of home matches to benefit PADRES, all of which will culminate with a unique night scheduled for September.  To learn more about this partnership, visit: www.cdchivasusa.com/community/padres.

MENDOZA APPROACHING CHIVAS USA APPEARANCE RECORD:  Francisco ‘Panchito’ Mendoza has now played in 122 games for Chivas USA, needing only two more appearances to surpass Jonathan Bornstein’s record of 123 appearances. Mendoza, the Mexican player with the most all-time Major League Soccer appearances, returned to Chivas USA this season after playing the past two years in Mexico.  The fan favorite and Chivas USA original has appeared in 11matches this season, and passed Sacha Kljestan’s 114 appearances earlier this year.

PEARCE PLAYS EVERY MINUTE: Defender Heath Pearce has played every minute so far this season, his first with Chivas USA.  He has now started all nineteen games for the Red-and-White, playing a total of 1,710 minutes.  Nick LaBrocca is the only other players to have started all nineteen games, but he has been substituted, leaving the 26-year old Pearce as the only Goat to play every possible minute thus far.
