CHIVAS USA DEFENDER MICHAEL UMAÑA CALLED UP TO COSTA RICAN NATIONAL TEAM

Umaña will to join ‘La Sele’ 22-man roster for friendlies against USA and Ecuador

Carson, CA. (Saturday, August 27, 2011) – Chivas USA’s defender Michael Umaña has been called up to the Costa Rican National Team for two international friendly matches. The first match will be against the US National Team on Friday September 2 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California at 8:00 p.m. PT.  The second match will be versus Ecuador in Quito, on Tuesday September 6. Costa Rica will play under the tutelage of interim head coach Ronald Gonzalez.

Umaña will join the rest of the 22-player roster this coming Tuesday August 30 in Los Angeles, and will consequently travel to Quito for the match against Ecuador.

“This is a new opportunity for me. I haven’t been with the National team for about a year now and I am very excited to meet the group. It’s a brand new cycle, there are a bunch of new faces, and I am ready to embrace it all” expressed the 29 year-old Santa Ana, Costa Rica native.

“I think it is great and very deserving. He’s been extremely consistent for us (Chivas USA) all year long, and Heath’s ability to play in a couple of different positions makes him even more attractive to a situation like that.” added Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser.

Michael Umaña’s Professional History and Stats
