AWARENESS NIGHT IN SUPPORT OF PADRES CONTRA EL CANCER
Hundreds of children invited to enjoy a unique soccer camp, arts and crafts activities;
Special visit by Chivas USA Alum Jimmy Conrad
CARSON, CA. (Friday, September 9, 2011) – September is pediatric cancer awareness month and Chivas USA will host a number of unique activities prior to its match vs. DC United on September 10 that will connect with Major League Soccer’s league-wide “Soccer Kicks Cancer” initiative as well as create awareness for club partner, PADRES Contra El Cancer.
The first event will host nearly two-hundred PADRES children and families at a Chivas USA HEART Soccer Camp, a unique initiative that connects special needs children to the game of soccer. Participating children will learn basic soccer skills, face off in a short scrimmage game, take part in arts and crafts activities, and interact with the club’s ChivaFighter mascot. Whole Foods Marketplace in Torrance will be on site as well providing participating families with snacks and refreshments.
Following the camp, and prior to the start of the evenings match, PADRES representatives will be present at Chivatown to educate fans on the services they provide to families with children diagnosed with cancer. Representatives from PADRES partner “Be The Match,” will also be on site educating fans about the need for bone marrow donors, especially amongst the Latino community.
