CHIVAS USA’S FORWARD JUAN AGUDELO CALLED UP TO US NATIONAL TEAM

FOR FLORIDA TRAINING CAMP

Agudelo to join Klinsmann’s 27-man camp Sunday;

 Final 23-man roster revealed before opening five-game series on May 26th

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, May 20, 2012) – Chivas USA announced today that forward Juan Agudelo will arrive in Orlando on Sunday, joining the US National Team for a training camp in advance of three friendlies and two World Cup qualifiers between May 26 to June 12.

The 19-year-old Agudelo was acquired by Chivas USA in a trade with the New York Red Bulls on Thursday May 17th.

Agudelo’s call-up comes one day after he started and played 76 minutes for his new team, in Chivas USA’s 1-0 win against the Los Angeles Galaxy Saturday night.

Of Agudelo’s inclusion in the roster, US National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann said, “[He is] coming in after a difficult first part of the season for him, not qualifying for the Olympics, struggling with an injury, and now with the trade to Chivas USA that we hope gives him a lift because he couldn’t pass by Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper at the Red Bulls. He has an opportunity now, and we want him to grab it and make clear to everyone that he deserves to be a starter no matter where he plays.”

Agudelo will train with the 27-man camp in Orlando until May 25th when Klinsmann will narrow the group to a final 23-man roster for the upcoming five matches.  If he makes the final roster, Agudelo will aim to add to his 15 appearances and 2 goals for the US National team in the games below.
