CHIVAS USA BATTLES SEATTLE SATURDAY AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER IN KEY WESTERN CONFERENCE SHOWDOWN

 

Chivas USA continues its Western Conference push when it hosts Western Conference power Seattle Sounders FC, Saturday Aug. 25, at The Home Depot Center for a 7:30 pm PT match. The match features the top two defenses in the conference and will be the second of three matches between the two clubs this season. Chivas USA played Seattle Sounders FC to a 1-1 tie at The Home Depot Center behind forward Juan Agudelo’s first-ever goal for the Rojiblancos in the 57th minute. Peter Vagenas started the Red-and-White’s goal sequence with a long pass to the right wing from his midfield position to right back James Riley near the corner of the 18-yard box. Riley then served a superbly placed center pass to the slashing Agudelo who headed it in. The assist was Riley’s second on the season. Seattle’s David Estrada knocked in the equalizer in the 61st minute.

Chivas USA – Seattle Sounders FC Rivalry

In eight all-time head-to-head meetings, Chivas USA and the Sounders have posted two wins apiece and four draws. The Goats have lost just once to Seattle in the previous five matches between the two at The Home Depot Center. The Clubs have also faced each other in two US Open Cup semifinals, with Seattle advancing passed the Goats to the championship round in 2012 and 2010.

Rojiblancos Continue Solid Run

The Goats continue their solid run, as they are unbeaten in six of their last eight matches, including three wins and three ties.

Chivas USA’s defense continues to be among the league’s best and stingiest, as it has allowed the third fewest goals with 26.

 

Super Dan Kennedy Between The Posts

2012 All-Star Dan Kennedy continues to be among MLS’ leaders in several goalkeeper categories, including Goals Allowed (25), Goals Against Average (1.18)

 

Chivas USA Sign Defender Bobby Burling

The Goats came to terms last week with the 27-year-old Burling. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Texas native is a Loyola Marymount alumnus. Chivas USA acquired the rights to Burling in May from the Montreal Impact.

 

Young Goat Now Eligible

Academy product Marco “Marky” Delgado is now eligible for action with Chivas USA’s first team. Because of league rules with regard to age regulations, Delgado, a 17-year-old midfielder could only practice with the Goats’ primary roster up to now.
