CHIVAS USA’S ANTE JAZIC CALLED UP FOR UPCOMING FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS MATCHES

The defender will join the Canadian National Team to face Panama on September 7 and 11

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, August 30, 2012) – Chivas USA announced today that defender Ante Jazic has been called up to the Canadian National Team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matches on September 7 and 11, 2012 in Toronto and Panama.

Goats’ defender will report to camp with Canada on Monday, September 3 and return to the Red-and-White organization on September 12. Canadian Head Coach Stephen Hart has selected 21 players to participate in the two-match series against Panama, the third and fourth matches in the six-match CONCACAF 3rd Round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Qualifiers.

Jazic will make his 30th appearance with his country’s National Team. The Halifax, Nova Scotia-native and 36-year-old veteran defender for the Rojiblancos represented Canada in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in 2004 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), he helped Canada reach the semi-final stage of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, represented Canada in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in 2008 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), and again in 2011.

“Always an honor to get called in to represent your country, we started the qualification process pretty well with four points and these next two games against Panama are extremely important for Canadian soccer and this generation in particular,” said Jazic. “I’m excited to be a part of it; we have a great group of guys, and looking forward to the game.”

Jazic has been among Chivas USA’s most solid and consistent performers on the pitch, having logged an impressive 1,875 minutes in 21 starts. Jazic made his debut for Canada in a May 1998 friendly match against Macedonia. He has recorded one goal and was a member of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.
