CHIVAS USA’S DAN KENNEDY NAMED ONE OF MLS’ AMBASSADORS FOR ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL

All-Star goalkeeper recognized by MLS W.O.R.K.S. as Humanitarian of the Month for September.

 

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, September 7, 2012) – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has named Chivas USA all-star goalkeeper Dan Kennedy one of MLS’ seven ambassadors. As part of the league’s “Soccer Kicks Cancer” initiative, Kennedy formed part of “Goals for St. Jude,” a fundraising and awareness campaign taking place Sept. 15-22.

 

“It’s an honor,” said Kennedy. “I remember growing up and looking up to professional athletes. Sometimes I don’t see myself like that, but I realize that kids respond to us. So I go to hospitals and see how bad things can be, and I marvel at how happy these kids still are when they’re fighting like hell. To give them a little bit of a distraction and a little bit of inspiration is an honor.”

 

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the premier pediatric cancer research centers in the world. For patients with health insurance, the 50-year-old institution covers the cost of care beyond what insurance pays for, and for those families without insurance, St. Jude covers the full cost.

 

Chivas USA continues its Western Conference push when it travels to the Pacific Northwest to face conference rival Seattle Sounders FC, Saturday Sept. 8, at CenturyLink Field for a 1:00 pm PT match. The contest will be the third and final meeting in the season series. The game will broadcast on television, live on Prime Ticket in English and KWHY Channel 22 in Spanish.
