CHIVAS USA TO KICK OFF CAREER PANEL SERIES
The Red-and-White organization partnered with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP
CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, September 30, 2012) – Chivas USA announced today the launch of the 2012 Career Panel and High School Internship Program series aimed at highlighting the importance of higher education to middle school and high school students in Los Angeles. Chivas USA has partnered with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP for the third year in hosting these career panel series in collaboration with the Youth Policy Institute. As a strong supporter of higher education, Chivas USA will be actively participating in the career panels to promote the importance and the benefits of achieving higher education.
The first of six career panels is scheduled to kickoff Monday Oct. at 11:30 a.m. (PT) at Charles Maclay Middle School. Students will have the opportunity to hear from a Chivas USA player, a ChivaGirl and Chivas USA executives, as they will share their personal struggles and successes to achieve higher education. The following career panel will be held Oct. 12 at the San Fernando Institute of Applied Media. Other locations include the Los Angeles Leadership Academy and Monseñor Oscar Romero Charter Middle School to name a few.
A new component to the career panel series this year included a Summer High School Internship Program in which three high school students from Wallis Annenberg High School had the opportunity to shadow the community affairs department staff throughout the summer and learn first-hand. The internship program also includes a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to one of the students at the conclusion of the program. The three selected interns will be asked to submit an essay about their experience, their biggest takeaways, and what they learned. The selected intern will not only be awarded a $500 scholarship, but he/she will also receive the opportunity for him/her and a guest to attend a road game for either a Chivas USA or Chivas Guadalajara match.
