CHIVAS USA’S ANTE JAZIC CALLED IN FOR UPCOMING FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

 

The defender will join Canadian National Team to face Cuba and Honduras

 

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, October 4, 2012) – Chivas USA announced today that defender Ante Jazic has been called up to the Canadian National Team for its upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches on Oct. 12 against Cuba and Oct. 16 against Honduras.

 

“This [call-up] is a testament of how hard [Jazic] has worked. Certainly at his age, Ante continues to be called, continues to be the number one at his position, and this really can be attributed to how hard he’s been working.”

 

The Rojiblancos’ defender will report to camp with Team Canada on Monday, Oct. 8, and return to the Red-and-White organization on Oct. 17. Canada Head Coach Stephen Hart has selected the 21-player roster to participate in the next round of CONCACAF Group C qualifiers, the first of which takes place in Toronto at BMO Field. Canada then travels to face the Catrachos in San Pedro Sula. Currently, Canada has seven points in group play at 2-1-1.

 

Jazic will make his 35^th appearance with his country’s National Team. The Halifax, Nova Scotia-native and 36-year-old veteran defender for the Rojiblancos represented Canada in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in 2004 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), he helped Canada reach the semi-final stage of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, represented Canada in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in 2008 (Canada reached CONCACAF semi-final round), and again in 2011.

 

Jazic has been among Chivas USA’s most solid and consistent performers on the pitch, having logged an impressive 2,235 minutes in 25 starts. Jazic made his debut for Canada in a May 1998 friendly match against Macedonia. He has recorded one goal and was a member of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.

Chivas USA has a short week as it returns home to host FC Dallas in a Western Conference clash Sunday, Oct. 7, at The Home Depot Center.
