EYE ON YOUTH ACADEMYChivas USA’s U-16 Rout GC Guatemala Jrs, 7-1Chivas USA’s U-16 squad defeated GC Guatemala Jrs, 7-1, in a scrimmage Monday at Veterans Park in Pomona, Calif. Academy Goats UpdateChivas USA’s young Goats continued their play in the SCDSL fall season this past weekend with all teams in action coming away with victories with the exception of the U18s, which played the San Diego Surf to a 1-1 result. B9 Chivas USA 4 vs Fram 2Rincon Park, Chino The U9s finished league play this past weekend with two tough games. On Saturday the boys played an early morning game in Chino Hills on a wet field against FRAM and came away with a 4-2 victory. FRAM took an early lead with a goal five minutes into the game but Chivas came back with two goals for a 2-1 halftime lead. FRAM wasn’t going to make things easy for the little goats and evened the score up early 2-2. Maintaining their poise,
Chivas put the game away with two more goals, securing the 4-2 victory. Brian Cobian had an outstanding game on the defensive end of the field for Chivas, helping keep a feisty FRAM squad in check.
On Sunday the U9s traveled to El Segundo to take on the South Bay Force, which sat at the top of the table. In what had to be one of their more impressive performances, Chivas won 1-0 to close out league play and a finish at the top of the North bracket. Chivas displayed great control by maintaining the majority of possession throughout the game, preventing the athletic and talented South Bay squad from getting many opportunities. Giovanni Ortega dominated the center of the pitch, distributing the ball from sideline to sideline helping to create chances on goal. Jonathon Lemus also had a great game and his line goal – set up by Christian Torres – was the difference. The U9s play next at the Nike Harvest Cup over Thanksgiving weekend in Irvine, CA. B10 Chivas USA 2 vs Arsenal FC 0Rincon Park, Chino The U10s finished league play Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the Gunners of Arsenal at Chino Hills. Aimar Cuevas and Frankie Alvarez scored one goal apiece the lead Chivas to victory. Daniel Ramirez recorded a shutout, while Adrian Muñoz displayed his verstatility by seeing his first action out of goal and on the field in a couple years. With the victory the U10s finished at the top of the North Bracket giving up only six goals on the season. The U10s play this weekend at the Nike Harvest Cup in Irvine, CA. B14 Chivas USA 2 vs Exiles 0LA Harbor College The U14s played their last game of the season Sunday afternoon at LA Harbor College against Exiles SC Red. Chivas dominated the game with a consistent effort and very good ball movement. After creating multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, David Ramon connected with Tyler Marquez in the 15th minute, who went around a couple of defenders outside the penalty to score and give the young Goats a 1-0 lead. The second half began with a very similar effort by Chivas. In the 29th minute, Marquez went one-on-one with several Exiles defenders and penetrated the defense to score the second and final goal for the 2-0 victory. The U14s finished their SCDSL season in second place behind Flight North and fourth overall at 7-2-1. B16 Chivas USA 2 vs San Diego Surf 1University of California Riverside The U16s traveled to the University of Riverside to take on the San Diego Surf. The young Goats got on the scoreboard early off a corner kick when Andrew Benitez rose above the Surf defenders and knocked home a header from six yards out. Two minutes into the second half, Jorge Ruiz made one of his many penetrating runs behind the Surf defense and found Caleb Calvert for an easy tap in to give the U16s their fifth straight win. Chivas sits in second place in the So Cal Conference and just four points behind first place Real Salt Lake, with a game in hand. The U16s are off this weekend as they prepare for the Winter Showcase in Sarasota, FL. Nov. 30 – Dec. 4, where they will face the Chicago Sockers, New England Revolution and DC United. B18 Chivas USA 1 vs San Diego Surf 1University of California Riverside The U18s faced a very stingy Surf team on Saturday. Coming off an important conference win the previous week versus Arsenal FC, Chivas were looking to add to their point total and gain ground in the So Cal Conference. The Surf jumped out on top early in the second half with a long throw-in. Miscommunication by the Chivas defense led to a Surf player being left unmarked and able to head-in a score. Chivas controlled the ball most of the second half as the Surf sat back and put numbers behind the ball and waited to counter. In the 70th minute Adam Arana sent a curling free-kick into the top left-hand corner of the net to tie the game 1-1. The young Goats were unable to find the game-winner and came away with the draw. The U18s are off this weekend as they prepare for the Winter Showcase in Sarasota, FL. Nov. 29 – Dec. 3, where they will face the Chicago Sockers, New England Revolution and DC United.
