Chivas USA Weekly Update: March 26, 2013

ROJIBLANCOS HOST WHITECAPS FC IN FIRST LEG OF SEASON SERIES
Chivas USA returned home Monday fresh off a successful first road trip after defeating the Chicago Fire 4-1, and now begin preparations to host Western Conference opponent Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Saturday night match is set for a 7:30 p.m. (PT) kickoff at The Home Depot Center and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690. The Rojiblancos begin their preparation week sitting in second place in the Western Conference with seven points and look to extend their unbeaten streak to four. The Red-and-White have gotten out to a solid start in conference play with a record of 1-0-1 and a strong overall record of 2-1-1 in the early season. The Goats came away with a draw at home last season in July against the Caps, but Vancouver took two wins in last season’s season series.

AGUDELO NAMED MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo came away with more than just his second goal of the season and his first assist of the campaign. The 20-year-old was named MLS Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday’s 4-1 road victory versus Chicago. In the 57th minute, Agudelo possessed the ball inside the box and laid off a short pass to Edgar “Chore” Mejia outside the box for a strike that opened up the scoring. In the 75th minute, Chivas USA used a quick outlet from goalkeeper Dan Kennedy to Jorge Villafaña to go up 3-1. Villafaña pushed the ball down the field and sent a ball over the top to Agudelo who brought the pass down near the arc with a defender on him. Agudelo created just enough space to get off a precise curling shot just inside the right post for the score. To see Agudelo’s curling goal click here.

‘CHORE’ MEJIA NOMINATED FOR GOAL OF THE WEEK
Chivas USA midfielder Edgar “Chore” Mejia recorded his first MLS goal in Sunday’s road win. The Guadalajara native sent a powerful strike from outside the box to beat Chicago’s goalkeeper to his left to give the Rojiblancos a 1-0 advantage in the 57th minute, and for that, Mejia is nominated for MLS Goal of the Week. Mejia also recorded his second assist of the season to give the Goats a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute when he sent a free kick from the left seam into the box that defender Joaquin Velazquez headed-in. AGUDELO AND ‘CHORE’ MEJIA NOMINATED FOR LATINO DE LA JORNADA
Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo and midfielder Edgar “Chore” Mejia are among the four candidates nominated for MLS’ Latino de la Jornada for their Week 4 performances. The fellow Goats each recorded a goal and assist to lead the Rebaño Angelino to a 4-1 win at Chicago on Sunday. To view the nominee’s performances and cast your vote visit here. Voting results will be announced by MLS on Friday.
