Luego de regresar a Los Ángeles, tras la actividad del domingo por la tarde en el Sporting Park de Kansas City donde el conjunto rojiblanco cayó ante el Sporting KC por 4-0 dentro de la Semana 10 de la Temporada 2013 de la MLS, el plantel de Chivas USA realizó la mañana de este lunes un entrenamiento regenerativo en sus instalaciones del Home Depot Center.

Minutos después de las 9:30AM, el plantel rojiblanco comenzó la actividad dividido en dos grupos conformados con respecto a su actuación ante el Sporting KC; el primero de ellos, integrado por los elementos que tuvieron actividad durante gran parte del encuentro y el segundo, conformado por los jugadores que ingresaron de cambio o que no tuvieron participación.

El primer grupo arrancó la práctica dentro del gimnasio del Home Depot Center para realizar labores regenerativas y aeróbicas, mismas que comprendieron trabajo en las bicicletas estáticas, así como ejercicios de estiramientos para compensar la actividad realizada en el partido en Kansas City. Tras poco más de 35 minutos, la actividad finalizó para este sector de jugadores.

El segundo grupo, comenzó su actividad en la cancha seis del HDC con una entrada en calor ligera, para después dar paso a labores de frecuencia y coordinación bajo la supervisión del Preparador Físico Oswaldo Scanseti, y posteriormente realizar actividad aeróbica consistente en alargues en un palmo de terreno y en un tiempo determinado. Tras poco más de una hora de actividad en el campo, la práctica se dio por terminada.

Los jugadores que se mantienen en recuperación de sus respectivas lesiones, así como los que no viajaron a Kansas City, realizaron una práctica diferida con respecto a los dos grupos de trabajo conformados para este lunes.

De cara al partido correspondiente a la Semana 11 de la Temporada 2013 en la MLS, Chivas USA recibió descanso para este martes, por lo que reportará a los trabajos de entrenamiento el miércoles 8 de mayo en punto de las 9:30AM en la cancha seis del HDC, en lo que conformará la primera de cuatro prácticas previas a enfrentar al Portland Timbers el domingo a las 2:00 PM en la cancha del JELD-WEN Field.

Queda Kennedy sin palabras tras la expulsión

El partido correspondiente a la Semana 10 de la Temporada 2013 en la MLS ante el Sporting de Kansas City es uno de los partidos que el portero y capitán del Rebaño Angelino Dan Kennedy no podrá olvidar, y no sólo porque el equipo cayó por 4-0, sino porque recibió una expulsión en el minuto 54 por una falta aparente sobre el mediocampista de Kansas City Paulo Nagamura.

Y es que lejos de la acción que desencadenó su expulsión, Dan Kennedy acumulaba ya más de cuatro años sin recibir una tarjeta roja, pues la última sucedió el 10 de octubre del 2008 en un partido ante el Dynamo de Houston, lo que sin duda consternó al cancerbero del Rebaño estadounidense.

«Yo estaba sólo tratando de regresar y cubrir mi terreno y la pierna de Paulo tocó mi tobillo. Es una de esas cosas en las que no me queda duda de que no hay intención de hacer una falta y creo que Nagamura lo sabe. Fue una jugada complicada para el árbitro, en la que al final, ya no supe más qué decir», señaló el portero a su regreso al Home Depot Center este lunes tras el partido.

«En toda la liga esas jugadas van a pasar, y ya me había pasado a mi antes, lo único que no sé es si es para expulsión, porque Joaquín Velázquez estaba ahí para terminar la jugada, aún si hay contacto o no con Paulo, no habría gol. ¿Qué puedes hacer?, lo único que puedes hacer es seguir adelante», agregó.

Tras la expulsión, tuvo que venir de la banca para suplir a Kennedy el nacido en Wisconsin Patrick McLain, quien en su debut en la MLS tuvo la responsabilidad de enfrentar un penal ante el delantero del Sporting KC Claudio Bieler, al que desafortunadamente para McLain el artillero anotó el primero de tres que recibiría en su partido de debut.

«Como porteros, nuestro debut siempre es interesante y es algo muy difícil de hacer. Creo que McLain está contento por lo que hizo y que no puede hacer nada para cambiar lo que pasó en el partido. Fue una situación terrible la que se dio en su ingreso, pero él tiene el carácter para afrontarlo y para continuar con lo que es lo importante, y eso es el partido ante Portland», concluyó.

«Kennedy es nuestro líder».- Burling.

Después de haber caído ante Sporting KC con la diferencia de goles más amplia en lo que va de la temporada, el defensor de Chivas USA Bobby Burling reconoció al finalizar el partido que el haber perdido al capitán y guardameta Dan Kennedy fue un gran golpe para la defensiva Rojiblanca.

«Cada vez que se pierde a alguien por una tarjeta roja directa es difícil», comentó Burling, «Kennedy es nuestro líder, nuestro portero y capitán. Fue una gran pérdida para nosotros».

Kennedy fue expulsado en el minuto 54 en una jugada con Paulo Nagamura, quien quedó solo frente al guardameta. Kennedy salió de su zona para enfrentar a Nagamura y fue en los límites del área el árbitro consideró que derribó el atacante. Por esta acción Kennedy estará fuera para el próximo encuentro del domingo contra su rival de conferencia los Timbers de Portland.

Chivas USA contará con la ayuda del segundo portero Patrick McLain en el partido del domingo en el Estadio Jeld-Wen Field. El de 24 años de Eau Claire, Wisconsin, fue obligado a debutar profesionalmente con la MLS el domingo a la salida de Kennedy.

“Fue una gran oportunidad para un jugador joven”, explicó Burling. “Me sentí mal por Pat de que saliera a la cancha en esas circustancias, y si le dan la oportunidad la próxima semana, vamos a creer en el”.

Mostrando su presencia en los 90 minutos de juego, Burling regresó ayer al once inicial después de haber estado ausente debido a una acumulación de tarjetas amarillas en el encuentro ante San José.

«Es una temporada larga, lo hemos dicho todo el tiempo. Tienes que olvidar rápidamente. Esto duele, nadie está feliz con esto», comentó Burling con respecto al rendimiento del equipo.

Lo que inició como un partido con mucha demanda física y sin ningún gol por parte de los dos equipos, gradualmente se fue convirtiendo en una ventaja de 1-0 cuando Sporting cruzó las redes rojiblancas al minuto 41 tras repetidos intentos de gol dentro del área de Chivas USA. Sporting expandió su ventaja en el minuto 57 al anotar por la vía de la pena máxima, dejando al equipo de José Luis Sánchez Solá con un hombre menos y con 33 minutos restantes por jugar en el encuentro.

Ahora, Chivas USA se posiciona en la mitad inferior de la Conferencia del Oeste con 11 puntos al ligar una racha de dos partidos sin lograr anotar en la portería rival. Y Burling, que cuenta con ocho años dentro de la Liga, sabe lo crucial que es cada semana.

«La próxima semana no va a ser fácil. Vamos a Portland y tenemos que reagruparnos rápidamente», concluyó Burling.

Academia al día: Continúan en ascenso jóvenes Rojiblancos

Un fin de semana positivo fue el que tuvieron los equipos Sub 15/16, Sub 17/18 y Sub 14 de Chivas USA. Los tres jóvenes equipos obtuvieron importantes victorias que los liga a seguir con su racha y sin derrotas

En la Academia de Desarrollo de U.S. Soccer…

Chivas USA Sub 15/16 venció 4-2 al Real Salt Lake AZ Sub15/16 el sábado en San Antonio College. Con un hat trick de Jorge Ruiz y una anotación de Ryo Fujii, los jóvenes Rojiblancos pudieron salir victoriosos del encuentro. Ruiz logró abrir el marcador para las Chivas USA al minuto 8, dos minutos bastaron después de la primera anotación para que Real Salt Lake AZ lograra empatar el marcador.

Antes del medio tiempo, Ruiz y Fuji lograron batir las redes rivales para irse al descanso con un 3-0 a favor. Ruiz regresó en el segundo tiempo para anotar el cuarto para los Rojiblancos Angelinos. Con las tres anotaciones de este fin de semana, Ruizha anotado 16 goles en la temporada 2012-2013 y ha logrado marcar por lo menos un gol por partido desde el 16 de marzo.

Después de la victoria del domingo, Chivas USA Sub 15/16 se mantiene en la primera posición de la División Suroeste de la Academia de Desarrollo de U.S. Soccer. Los jóvenes Rojiblancos avanzaron dos lugares para ubicarse en el puesto número 6 en la post-temporada, y reafirmar así su liderato en la Conferencia del Oeste.

También el mismo sábado, el equipo Sub 17/18 logró asegurar un lugar dentro de la post-temporada de la Academia de Desarrollo de U.S. Soccer, al vencer 3-2 al Real Salt Lake AZ Sub 17/18. Chivas USA Sub 17/18 abrió el marcador con una anotación de Caleb Calvert, quien estuvo entrenando con el primer equipo de Chivas USA la semana pasada.

Consecutivamente cayeron dos goles, uno por parte de Mario Ortiz y el otro a cuenta del ganador del Sueño MLS Armando Flores. Las Chivas USA Sub 17/18 se encuentran en el quinto lugar de la División Suroeste y onceavo en la tabla general, para quedarse con un lugar comodín para la post-temporada.

El siguiente reto para los equipos Sub 15/16 y Sub 17/18 será contra Real So Cal el sábado 11 de mayo en el campo del San Antonio College.

El Equipo Varonil Sub 15 en la Copa Nacional

El Equipo Varonil Sub 15 de Chivas USA fue eliminado de la Cal South’s National Cup el sábadotras haber caído 4-3 ante San Diego Surf Sub 15 en los dieciseisavos de final. A pesar de que fue un partido complicado, los jóvenes Rojiblancos no pudieron lograr la victoria para poder posicionarse en la siguiente instancia de la competencia.

Sub 14 permanece invicto en la Temporada de Primavera

El conjunto de Chivas USA Sub 14 finalizó invicto en la Temporada de Primavera de la Liga de Desarrollo de Futbol del Sur de California con sólo un gol en contra.

Máximo anotador

Caleb Calvert se ha convertido en el máximo anotador en la liga Sub 15/16 de la Academia de Desarrollo de U.S. Soccer. Con dos partidos por disputar, Calvert anotó 19 goles en esta temporada, ocho de ellos en el equipo de Chivas Sub 18. El joven delantero rojiblanco entrenó la semana pasada con el Rebaño Angelino y recibió elogios de parte del entrenador de Chivas USA José Luis Sánchez Solá.

Regenerative Training for Chivas USA

After Sunday’s 4-0 Chivas USA loss to Sporting KC at Sporting Park, and upon their arrival in Los Angeles on Monday morning, the team held a regenerative training session in the facilities of The Home Depot Center.

Shortly after 9:30AM, the Goats began their activity, splitting into two groups, depending on their activity against Sporting KC; one group consisted of players that had the most minutes in Sunday’s match, while the other group was a selection of players that came off the bench or had no activity in the game.

The first group kicked off their day at The Home Depot Center’s gym focusing only on regenerative and aerobic exercises that consisted of work-outs on stationary bicycles and stretches, in an effort to compensate for the work put in at Kansas City. A little after 35 minutes from their start, training concluded for the first group of players.

For the second group, training began at The Home Depot Center’s Field 6. Kicking off with a light jog, and continuing with strength and conditioning exercises under the supervision of Physical Trainer Osvaldo Scansetti. The group closed training with a beep test. The session concluded after a little over an hour of training on the field.

Players who are treating injuries, as well as those who didn’t make the trip to Kansas City, held a separate training session than the previous two groups on Monday morning.

Heading into Week 11 of the 2013 MLS season, Chivas USA will be off on Tuesday, and will return to training on Wednesday, May 8 at 9:30AM at The Home Depot Center’s Field 6, in the first of four training sessions ahead of Sunday’s match against the Portland Timbers at 2 pm at JELD-WEN Field.

Kennedy Lost for Words as He Sees Red

Chivas USA’s Week 10 match in the 2013 MLS season is one that goalkeeper and team captain Dan Kennedy would very much like to forget. Not only did the team fall 4-0 to Sporting KC on the road, but he was issued a red card in the 54th minute for an apparent foul on former Red-and-White midfielder Paulo Nagamura, a card Kennedy had not seen since October 10, 2008 in a match against the Houston Dynamo.

“I was just trying to get back and cover my ground and Paulo’s leg barely touched my ankle. It’s one of those things that, without a doubt, there’s no intent on the foul, and I think Nagamura knows that. It was a hard play for the ref; in the end, I don’t know what else to say,” Kennedy said upon his arrival to The Home Depot Center on Monday morning.

“Across the league, these plays are going to happen and it’s happened to me before. I just don’t know if it’s a red card, that’s my opinion on it. Just because Joaquin is there to make the play, even if there’s no contact between me and Paulo, there’s no goal scored. What can you do? You just have to move on,” the team captain added.

Coming off the bench for the first time in MLS to replace an ejected Kennedy, was Wisconsin-native Patrick McLain. From the first minute upon entering the field, McLain was challenged in a penalty kick that KC forward Claudio Bieler took from the 12-yard mark. Unfortunately for McLain, Bieler was able to score for the home team, leading KC to gain confidence and notch two more goals against Chivas by end of regulation time.

“As goalkeepers, your debuts always seem to be interesting; it’s a very hard thing to do. I think he’s probably glad that it’s behind him and there’s nothing to get it done and change the game. It was a terrible situation to come into and he’s got the character to put it behind him and move on to what’s important, and that’s Portland,” Kennedy finalized.

After falling to Sporting Kansas City by the largest goal differential of the season, Chivas USA defender Bobby Burling acknowledged after the match that losing goalkeeper and captain Dan Kennedy in the 54th minute, after he was issued a straight red card, was a huge blow for the Red-and-White back line.

“Anytime someone goes down with a red card it’s tough,” said Burling. “He’s the rock of our team, our goalkeeper and captain. It was a huge deal to lose him.”

Kennedy was shown a straight red in the 54th minute when he drew contact on Sporting’s Paulo Nagamura, who took a slotted pass outside the box and was left on a one-on-one with Kennedy. The Red-and-White keeper came off his line and met Nagamura just inside the 18-yard line, where the referee deemed that the midfielder was taken down. Kennedy will now have to sit out next Sunday’s crucial road match against conference rival the Portland Timbers.

Chivas USA will have to count on back-up ‘keeper Pat McLain to step up against the Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field. The 24-year-old from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was forced to make his professional debut in MLS on Sunday after Kennedy’s ejection.

“It was a great opportunity for a young guy to step up,” explained Burling. “I felt sorry for Pat to come into the game the way he did, but if he gets the opportunity next week, we are confident in him.”

Burling, who returned to the starting line-up Sunday after sitting out last week’s match against San Jose to serve a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation, played the full 90 minutes and got an up-close look at Sporting KC’s fire-power and finesse.

“It’s a long season, we’ve said that all along,” Burling added. “You have to have a short memory. This [result] hurts. No one is happy about it.”

What started off as a physical, high-paced match locked at zero, gradually became a 1-0 advantage when Sporting broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute after repeatedly getting into dangerous spots inside the box from both sides. Sporting extended their lead in the 57th minute after cashing in the penalty kick that left Head Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola’s squad a man short for the remaining 33 minutes of regulation, the rout ensued.

Chivas USA now find themselves in the bottom half of the Western Conference standings with 11 points after suffering their second shutout of the 2013 MLS campaign. And Burling, an eight-year League veteran, knows how crucial each week is.

“It doesn’t get any easier next week. We go to Portland and have to regroup right away,” Burling concluded.

Academy Update: Young Goats Move On Up

It was a positive weekend for Chivas USA’s U15/16, U17/18 and U14 teams. All three Red-and-White youth teams were able to earn huge victories, extending their respective unbeaten streaks.

Chivas USA’s U15/16 team took a 4-2 win over Real Salt Lake AZ U15/16 on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College. A hat trick by Jorge Ruiz and a single goal by Ryo Fujii gave the young Goats the ultimate win. Ruiz was able to open the scoreboard in the 8th minute of the match. RSL AZ came back a two minutes later and notched the equalizer for the Arizona team.

Before halftime, Ruiz scored his second of the match and Fujii notched his own. Ruiz came back into the second half and scored early on, but it was not enough for the Goats’ rival. With this weekend’s hat trick, Ruiz has scored 16 goals with the U15/16’s in the 2012/2013 season and at least one goal per game since March 16.

After Saturday’s victory, Chivas USA’s U15/16 team stands firm in first place of the Southwest Division in U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy. The young Goats have also moved up in the playoff berths; the U15/16 moved up two spots to number six, being the team with the top seed in the Western Conference.

Also securing their spot in the USSDA playoffs is Chivas USA’s U17/18 squad. On Saturday, the Red-and-White Academy team earned a 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake AZ U17/18 team. Unsurprisingly, Caleb Calvert, who joined the First Team for training last week, notched the first goal for the Goats, followed by two more goals by SueñoMLS winner Armando Flores and Mario Ortiz. The U17/18 team currently sits in fifth place of the Southwest Division but is securing a spot in the wildcard pool for the USSDA playoffs as the 11th team.

Up next, Chivas USA’s U15/16 & U17/18 teams will match-up against Real So Cal on Saturday, May 11 at Mt. San Antonio College.

BU15’s in National Cup

Chivas USA’s BU15 team was eliminated from Cal South’s National Cup on Saturday after falling 4-3 to the San Diego Surf BU15 team in the Round of 32. Although it was a hard-fought match, the young Goats were unable to earn the victory that would take them to the next round.

U14’s undefeated in Spring Season

Chivas USA’s U14 Team concluded the Spring Season with the Southern California Development Soccer League (SCDSL) undefeated. Only one team was able to score one goal against the young squad.
