Como parte de sus preparativos para el Torneo Apertura 2013 de la Primera División de México, Chivas Guadalajara viaja hoy a Los Ángeles, Calif. para entrenarse durante diez días en tierras californianas. Durante su estancia, el club de Guadalajara realizará labores físicas y futbolísticas en las Canchas de El Home Depot Center, un campo de golf aún por determinar y la playa de Manhattan Beach, donde se estarán hospedando.

Su visita en Los Ángeles cerrará con un partido amistoso a puerta cerrada en El Home Depot Center, el domingo, 16 de junio, hora aún por designar. Chivas Guadalajara regresará a sus instalaciones de Verde Valle al día siguiente para continuar con sus trabajos de preparación antes de regresar a EE.UU. en julio.

El 3 de julio, el Rebaño se enfrentará a las Águilas del América en la Ciudad de Las Vegas y posteriormente, visitará a D.C. United el 12 de julio en el RFK Stadium.

A continuación podrá obtener el calendario de actividades de Chivas Guadalajara en su estadía en Los Ángeles entre el 7 y 17 de junio del 2013.

Bowen sigue dando asistencias fuera de la cancha

El delantero de Chivas USA y nacido en Los Ángeles, Tristan Bowen ya ha logrado mucho en su carrera como futbolista. A sus 22 años, Bowen ha representado a la Selección Nacional de EE.UU. con la Sub-18 y Sub-20, ha militado en Europa por un tiempo y en estos momentos se encuentra en su quinta temporada en la Major League Soccer. Según Bowen, todo este éxito se lo debe a su participación en un programa juvenil después de la escuela que lo ayudó en su desarrollo como jugador, a si como a convertirse en la persona que es hoy.

Bowen creció asistiendo a Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement (LAYOM), programa de tarde ubicado en el valle de San Fernando que se enfoca en proveer a los jóvenes de la comunidad de un lugar seguro y productivo en el que poder realizar sus labores de la escuela y sus actividades. El joven delantero comenzó yendo a las instalaciones cuando tenía 13 años, recordó su tío, y para ello tomaba hasta dos camiones y un tren con fin de llegar si eso fuera necesario.

“Creo que [el programa], primeramente, ofrece un ambiente seguro y alejado de las influencias negativas”, destacó Hugh Carter, tío de Bowen quien ha sido el encargado del programa por ya nueve años. “Si tienes una meta y un objetivo, te ayuda a seguir ese sendero y enfocarte en él. Aquí, siempre nos enfocamos en preguntarles a los jóvenes como les va su trabajo de escuela y como van con el trabajo de sus metas”.

Y Carter, nativo de Jamaica quien creció cerca del fútbol y del atletismo, comentó que notó el talento que tenía su sobrino en el fútbol, deporte que ayudó a desarrollar mediante el programa de fútbol sala que ofrece LAYOM y siempre y cuando su tarea estuviera hecha. Ahora, como uno de los integrantes con más experiencia en la MLS con el conjunto Rojiblanco, Bowen dice que le gusta regresar al lugar que le brindó tanto apoyo y que lo ayudó a conseguir su sueño.

“Hay muchas cosas positivas que se pueden hacer allí”, destacó Bowen. “Yo mismo pasé por el programa, así que soy testigo del impacto que tiene en las vidas de los jóvenes. He visto personas que se han alejado del programa y que se han ido por el mal camino, pero al regresar, se vuelven de nuevo a las buenas pautas.

“Ahora que soy profesional, trato de visitar y apoyar de cualquier forma posible y de no olvidar de dónde vengo”.

Bowen está muy lejos de olvidarse de olvidar sus años de adolecente, ya que tiene pactado invitar a un grupo de jóvenes a un partido de Chivas USA como detalle al programa que le brindó tanto cuando lo necesitó.

“Tenemos a tantos jóvenes muy motivados al ver lo que Tristan ha logrado”, añadió Carter. “Es un chico que ha crecido con ellos y que se ha enfrentado a los mismos obstáculos, y aún y con esos baches ha logrado cumplir un sueño que muchos de ellos comparten. Viéndolo a él les da aún mas motivación y hace que ese sueño parezca más aseguible”.

Sub-23 de Chivas USA listos para su segundo duelo

El recién formado cuadro Sub-23 de Chivas USA se enfrentará este sábado, 8 de junio, ante FC Expat como parte de la Liga So Cal Premier. En su segundo partido en su historia, la escuadra disputará por su primea victoria en Mount San Antonio College en la ciudad de Walnut a partir de las 5 p.m. (Tiempo de Pacífico).

La Sub-23 se llevó un empate de 3-3 ante Sport Club Orange County en Anaheim el sábado pasado, encabezado con la actuación del delantero Chris González en el partido inaugural. Los cuatro goles cayeron en la primera mitad, pero ninguno de los equipos pudo clavar el gol victorioso para sumar tres puntos.

“Estamos emocionados por nuestro segundo partido”, comentó el Director Técnico de la Sub-23 Sammy Rivas. “Los jugadores han estado entrenando y están listos para [este sábado]. Comenzamos un poco irregular en el primer tiempo del primer partido, pero en el segundo el equipo se mostró más fuerte. Tuvimos varias oportunidades pero no las pudimos aprovechar, en base a ello quizás porque no hemos practicado juntos mucho tiempo, pero vamos mejorando”.

González, oriundo del sur de California, anotó su primer tanto al minuto 13, pero Sport Club Orange County remontó el marcador con dos goles en los minutos 23 y 31. Antes de que los equipos entraran al descanso, González emparejó al Rebaño Angelino con su segundo gol, lo que después de la segunda mitad le daría un punto a su equipo.

“Es un jugador que se anticipa muy bien y tiene olfato de gol”, añadió Rivas. “Tiene la oportunidad de ser el goleador de la Liga y va ser uno de los jugadores claves en el juego de mañana”.

Otros elementos de la escuadra que también pueden tener una actuación clave en el duelo son Angel Gonzalez, Cesar Zamora y Omar Elmazri, integrantes que ya han participado con el equipo de reservas este año.

Chivas Guadalajara’s Visit

Chivas Guadalajara travel to Los Angeles, Calif. today as part of the team’s preseason training ahead of Torneo Apertura 2013 in the Mexican First Division. During their 10-day stay in Los Angeles, Guadalajara will be alternating training locations by visiting The Home Depot Center, a golf course yet to be determined, and Manhattan Beach.

Their visit in Los Angeles will end with a friendly match, closed to the public, at The Home Depot Center on Sunday, June 16 (Time TBD). Chivas Guadalajara will return to Verde Valle facilities in Mexico on Monday, June 17 to continue their preseason training before returning to the U.S. in July.

On July 3, Guadalajara will face Club America in Las Vegas, and then travel to the U.S. capital to face D.C. United at RFK Stadium on July 12.

Bowen Continues Giving Assists off the Field

Chivas USA forward and Los Angeles native Tristan Bowen has already accomplished several feats as a soccer player. The 22-year-old has represented the U.S. Men’s National Team as a member of the U-18 and U-20 teams, has spent time playing briefly in Europe and is in his fifth season in Major League Soccer. According to Bowen, a huge part of his success can be credited to his uncle’s after school program for helping him become both the player and the person he is today.

At age 13 Bowen began spending time at the Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement (LAYOM), a city-funded program located in the San Fernando Valley geared to providing a safe and productive after-school environment for youths in the local communities through tutoring and activities. The then teenager used to take a pair of buses and a train to make the trek to the San Fernando to get to the program.

“I think [the program] provides a safe environment away from some of the negative influences, that’s number one,” said Bowen’s uncle, Hugh Carter, who has run LAYOM for the last nine years. “If you have a goal and an objective, it helps you to stay on that path and to really focus in, because most of the discussions here are always about ‘what’s going on in school’ and what’s going on with your goal?’”

And Carter, a native of Jamaica, who grew up playing soccer and running track, says he saw soccer potential in Bowen early on. He helped nourish and develop that talent through LAYOM’s indoor soccer program, always on the condition that his nephew put his schoolwork first. Now, as one of the most experienced MLS players with the Red-and-White, Bowen says that every opportunity he gets, he returns to the place that provided him with the help to succeed.

“There are just a lot of positive things that you can do there,” said Bowen. “I myself went through the program, so I know what a difference it makes in kids’ lives. I’ve seen kids going in the complete opposite direction who come back to the program and start doing the right thing.

“Now that I’m a professional player, I try to go back and lend a helping hand and not forget where I came from.”

Bowen has certainly not overlooked the place that mentored him, as he will host a group of kids in an upcoming Chivas USA game as part of his efforts to continue giving back to the program that gave so much to him.

“We have so many kids with us who are really motivated by what Tristan has accomplished,” Carter added. “Because this is a kid that grew up with them and faced the same obstacles that they face and he still managed to work all his way to where all of them dream to be. Seeing him do this makes it more real to them and it gives them even more motivation.”

Chivas USA U-23s Set for Second Match

Chivas USA’s newly-formed U-23 squad will face FC Expat in their second match of the season on Saturday, June 8, as part of the So Cal Premier League. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. (PT) at Mount San Antonio College in the city of Walnut.

The U23s came away with a 2-2 draw in their first match last Saturday against Sport Club Orange County in Anaheim, led by forward Chris Gonzalez’s two-goal performance in the club’s inaugural match. All four scores fell in the first half and neither side could retake the lead and lay claim to three points.

“We’re excited for our second match,” said U23 Head Coach Sammy Rivas. “The players have been training and are ready for [Saturday]. We started a little irregular in the first half of last week’s match, but in the second half the team showed improvement. We had a lot of scoring opportunities but we could not take advantage of them, perhaps because we haven’t been together that long, but we are getting better.”

Gonzalez first put the Red-and-White ahead in the 13th minute. Sport Club Orange County answered back with two scores in the 23rd and 31st minute, but the Southern California product pulled Chivas USA even with his second goal just before the half that would eventually secure the club’s first point.

“He’s a player with very good anticipation and has a nose for the goal,” added Rivas. “He has a chance to be one of the league’s goal leaders and will be one of the key players in tomorrow’s game.”
