Chivas USA Fall at home 3-1 to FC Dallas
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013) – Chivas USA fell Wednesday night, 3-1, in the third and final meeting against FC Dallas at the StubHub Center. The Rojiblancos took the initial lead on Bryan de la Fuente’s first-half goal in his season debut on fellow academy product Marco Delgado’s assist. FCD responded with three unanswered scores in the second half by Blas Perez, David Ferreira and Ramon Nuñez to take the road win and even the season series at a win and draw apiece.
The sides came out looking to get into spaces in the attacking third and began testing the opposing goalkeeper by getting in and around the box. Red-and-White ‘keeper and captain Dan Kennedy kept the match scoreless with his key save in the 14th minute on Blas Perez’s shot from the right side of the box that was on frame and directed inside the left post. Kennedy leaped to his right and batted the strike away with his right hand to deny the threat.
The Rojiblancos broke open the scoreless match in the 43rd minute when Delgado chipped a pass over FCD’s defense to De la Fuente inside the box. The recently re-acquired midfielder chested the pass down and beat keeper Raul Fernandez with a right-footed shot to take a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.
Playing up a goal in the second half, the Goats looked to extend their lead. In the 57th minute De la Fuente sent a cross from the left side to Erick Torres near the short area that was broken up in a collision with Fernandez. Chivas was then awarded a corner kick as a result. As the ball was sent into the box, it was headed high in the air by FCD. Center back Mario de Luna got then a clean shot on the rebound, but his volley attempt sailed high of the crossbar.
The visitors equalized in the 71st minute when Ferreira chipped a long pass over the top along the left sideline to Fabian Castillo. The midfielder served a pass to Perez who was positioned outside the box and got off a shot beating Kennedy to the lower left corner of the net.
The Rojiblancos looked to reclaim the lead and extend their home unbeaten streak to four, but the visitors pulled away with two goals in the final four minutes of the match. Nuñez slotted a pass to Ferreira as he got behind the defense and knocked in the go-ahead goal just inside the right post. Four minutes later, Nuñez received a pass from Perez on the left side of the box and powered a shot that landed in the right side netting to put the final marker at 3-1.
Chivas USA will return to action as part of their short week to close out their three-game homestand when they host the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, Aug. 25, in a 2 p.m. (PT) kickoff at the StubHub Center. The match will be the only meeting between the sides during the 2013 campaign and will be televised in Spanish on UniMas. For radio users, the match will also be broadcasted in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. For more information visit cdchivasusa.com and follow us on Twitter @cdchivasusa and Facebook.com/chivasusa.
