Spain In The 2018 World Cup: Why Did It Crash? [RCAG]

This article is dedicated to koolskosherkitchen and her great blog.

I have been asked many times about why and how Spain managed to crash itself from the World Cup. The match and the views were enough to leave people in tears to the point that the possibility that internal sabotage existed.

The reasons are based on the psychological warfare against the Spanish National Team from Russia, Germany, and England. This has been seen before, during and after the matches although Germany crashed before Spain.

I think that the sudden change in managers [coaches] before the start of the World Cup did not help Spain’s cause as it had to adjust to a new system. The changes should have been made after the event.

The fact that Spain did not prepare itself for its matches further undermined the team. It was expected that Spain would have it difficult against Portugal but that Iran and Morocco would be better if they had practiced.

The reality is that Spain had to play catch up with Iran and Morocco in order to win. Even then, the team had to rely on VAR [Video Assisted Referee] to save it.

This is not a way to save a team and there should have been practice when facing Russia. I did not want to say this but Spain missed many opportunities to score and Russia took advantage of every weakness.

The rest was an exercise in painful memories. Now Russia faces Croatia and lets see what happens.

In the meantime, Spain will have to find a way to reorganize and that in itself is an uphill battle.

  1. I thank you so much, Senor Roberto, for your kind dedication!
I do appreciate your analysis of the situation and will share it with Russian- and Hebrew-speaking friends. While sharing your opinion regarding psychological warfare, I have heard “on the grapevine” that there might have been an illicit arrangement for Russia to win, rather than sabotage. Any take on that rumor?
